Jack Reacher - what a mess !

I have bought, read and kept every Lee Child book in the Jack Reacher series. While I agree that TC is a tad short to portray the book version of JR, it is not a bad movie. Part of the series is built around the toughness and large physical presence of the ex-Military Police officer. TC does well as the former but fails with the latter.

Huge success at the box office has very little to do with artistic or directional quality - Twilight comes to mind.

what to have do to say about the positive reviews .62% on rotten tomatoes ? OMG daveza u are such a mess !!!!

From one of the reviews -

Overlong and undercooked, the film fails to gain traction on any level. It's dramatically inert and relies on uninspired action sequences to provide "pop."

At 130 minutes, Jack Reacher is too long but it feels rushed and incomplete. It's obvious that subplots were truncated or cut and character arcs were abridged.

Tonal inconsistencies abound. There are times when Jack Reacher appears headed into romantic territory only to pull back and decide to make Helen and Jack's relationship professional.

Jack Reacher's centerpiece action sequences, which include a lengthy car chase and a shootout/fight, are shot in a clear, coherent manner but lack the content to make them noteworthy. They are generic staples and, because no sense of excitement or suspense accompanies them, they feel overlong and at times almost tedious. Jack Reacher is B-level material that has been given an A-level treatment. Despite all the talent involved both in front of and behind the camera, this would-be franchise launcher never achieves anything better than a decaying low orbit. I wouldn't bet the mortgage on there being a Jack Reacher 2.

So it's not just me ....

A movie with Tom Cruise in the lead role only gets 62% positive reviews ?

I liked Jack Reacher. I agree that the topless Tom Cruise was out of place and completely unnecessary, but on the whole a fun movie.

Agreed, was pleasantly surprised at how good it was given its name, usually movies that I named like this one aren't any good.

Being a fan of the JR books, I personally had Vinnie Jones in mind for the role and was disappointed when TC was cast - haven't seen the movie yet and will reserve further comments until I've watched it - although not a TC fan, I'm going to look past this and watch the movie for what it is ;)

That killing a whole lot of people to cover up your intended target plot was around back in Agatha Christi's day, so was pretty obvious from the start.

Except you never find out who was behind the killings which is quite a large plothole.

john travolta, liam neeson, vince vaughn, clive owen, liev screiber, gerard butler come to mind.

Liam Neeson would've been awesome.

Gerard Butler is way too intense and I could never take Clive Owen seriously as a bad ass :/

Think he did a fine job, as the author stated it was tough to find a suitable actor for this role due to his size etc etc, definitely not and award winner but fun to watch nonetheless!

The guy from "Person of Interest" would have made a good Jack Reacher - Cruise is too "pretty"

Oh yes!
In one of the Reacher novels he decides he's had enough of some local tough guys extorting protection money from a restaurateur. So he lures them into an alley and bounces them from wall to wall. He then super glues the one guys hand together as well as a giant note to his forehead telling the boss man to piss off. He packs him onto the other thugs back, arms looped around the neck like a rucksack and sends them on their way. :D
I can totally see a Liam Neeson character doing that kind of thing.
