Jack Reacher - what a mess !

Apart from the midget for the lead role I liked the movie. Topless Cruise was safely blocked from memory until now though.
 
I liked Jack Reacher. I agree that the topless Tom Cruise was out of place and completely unnecessary, but on the whole a fun movie.
 
I watched it at Monte. Thought it was an above-average action/suspense film.

What exactly did you find wrong with it? Acting, story or was it just not what you expected it to be?

As a fan this is a valid criticism. The guy is for all intents and purposes a hobo, very big, very unrefined. He sleeps in the nude with his clothes pressed under his mattress to iron them. Geez its like casting michael clarke duncan as frodo.

And yet there are complaints of seeing Tom in the nude.

At over 6 feet tall John Rhys Davies was cast as a Dwarf so bad analogy.

Think he did a fine job, as the author stated it was tough to find a suitable actor for this role due to his size etc etc, definitely not and award winner but fun to watch nonetheless!

Well I have not read any of the books so had no preconceptions about the character, but the missus has and said TC was not even close.

But that aside -

There's a bunch of people who skip from state to state building stuff nobody needs and kill someone who doesn't want to sell their business.

So - who the hell were these people ?

They hired a hitman, who seemed to have some Russian accomplices (??), a creepy old dude who was a prisoner, and there's a guy in the DA's office who joins them (??)

In the end they all get taken care of - but what about the people who hired them ?

Do we even see the people who hired them ?

Why does the lawyer not tell the guy in the hospital that they know he didn't do it ?

Why do they off the girl and the guy who beat up Reacher, but not the other 3 who were also involved in the arranged beating ?

Why commit an act of terrorism to hide a commercial dispute, that's a sure fire way to get every law agency in the states looking your way. The whole premise is ridiculous. Just fake a suicide.
 
Do unto others what you would like them to do unto you.

Calling someone's work a mess is not Right. The film is not only about Tom Cruise but also Christopher McQuarrie the director ,The producers , the screenwriter , the cinematographer , the editor , the distributor (Paramount pics) , and the studio who risked $60m. For your own info Jack Reacher was a huge success at the US box office and Worldwide and also received positive reviews and has 62% on rotten tomatoes.

Instead of mess you could have used the word mediocrity
 
But it's not a mediocrity, it's a mess.

Many mediocre movies still have some sense of logic.

Huge success at the box office has very little to do with artistic or directional quality - Twilight comes to mind.
 
I enjoyed it. I don't understand why it is fashionable to hate on Tom Cruise. I know he is a scientologist nut, but I can still watch a movie and enjoy it despite that. It seems like some though just like to hate on the guy for fun.
 
I would have been disappointed with the movie even if Tom Cruise wasn't in it.

He's still believable as an action star, and I enjoyed the last Mission Impossible as well.

My problem is with the storyline.
