So I thought that today's partial solar eclipse would be a perfect opportunity to use my camera on it.... just went outside. 80% cloud cover :(
Hopefully it clears up before 8.15am.... then I will at least be able to upload some photos.

So I managed to get two photos of the solar eclipse, but right now we have 100% cloud cover. I noticed that if the sun is behind clouds at all then the camera is unable to focus the light, ie the whole photo is bright and no sun :(

Nothing but cloud here. Pity because I think I managed to suss out a way to view it with two polarising filters. :o

Meh.. I was also looking forward to taking some photos of this.. but noooooooooooooooooooooooo the weatherman conspired against me.. 100% cloud cover in durban, which is only now starting to clear sort of.

I just need to make my 4MB photos smaller quickly, then I'll post them.

Cropped it to get the file size smaller.

At 8.15 there was no sun here in Pretoria, so this one was taken at 8.45 with the eclipse moved down further.

Here's one of the first I have processed from this morning, we were just lucky enough to have some breaks in the clouds for the best part of it. Sorry though to hear that many in the country missed it due to cloudy skies.

It looks damn nice. You used some kind of filter, right? Unfortunately for me I only have a lens and the camera... couldn't afford a polarizing lens yet.

Thanks ToxicBunny & Froot. I used two heavy stop ND filters stacked totalling 18-stops.

Ah okay. I've looked at getting myself filters but they're a tad expensive for me. I have looked into it and am actually considering designing my own. Will work out a lot cheaper and is also a nice little project.

Yes filters are not cheap, a good selection often costing more than your body. A good idea to try and make your own, a good project and nothing like using something you made yourself. Let us know how it goes.

Will do. Just need to get my hands on a decent quality plastic film first.
