Liverpool have accepted a bid from Hoffenheim for the Holland international Ryan Babel. The Bundesliga club have now been given permission to discuss personal terms with the player, who has travelled to Germany.

Babel had earlier expressed a desire to move away from Anfield in order to gain regular first-team football, suggesting that a move back to Ajax would help Liverpool in their pursuit of Luis Suárez, but it would now appear to Germany is his most likely destination, with newspaper Bild reporting the fee to be in the region of €7m (£5.8m).

"Following the departure of [Demba] Ba and the injury to [Chinedu] Obasi, we were in an emergency situation," Hoffenheim's owner, Dietmar Hopp, said. "Babel was one of the prime candidates who our general manager, Ernst Tanner, was most convinced about."

The 24-year-old could make his debut against St Pauli on Sunday, should the deal be completed in the next few days.

"For a player of my age it is important to be playing week in week out," Babel earlier told the Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf. "For the chance to play I am willing to settle for far less pay."

Babel joined Liverpool from Ajax in 2007 for £11.5m but throughout his time at Anfield his form has been inconsistent and he has struggled to hold down a first-team place.

Bugger him. I mean I get we could have used him on the right hand side, but still... I'm looking at it longer term. We have some great midfield talent coming through and he would have just stunted their growth. We really don't need him and while Anelka isn't exactly the best person to play on the right hand side - when he does well, he's ten times the player that Pienaar ever could be.

To be fair with the strikers at Everton you really can't expect a decent assist ratio.

Chelsea desperately need that type of player

Everton don't have decent strikers, but players like Cahill and Baines have shone under the current situation
Pienaar has never been anything other than average, and Everton have a left back that has contributed more to their attack in goals and assists than their supposed attacking midfielder
 
12 goals in 133 appearances in all competitions
1 assist and 1 goal in all competitions this year

For 3M he's a decent buy for Spurs, as cover for their existing midfielders, but he wont be a regular starter like he is at Everton, and thats why it was a dumb move on his part

So he has a better chance at winning a trophy at Spurs, but there's not much to be proud of if you were nothing more than a bit-part player

Thinking about it again, I'm not sure if he made the right decision to go either Chelsea or Spurs.
Short term: Chelsea would have been a great option, but next season Abramovich can decide to spend a billion and get all the best players all over the world. Than Pienaar would fade away.
Long term: At the moment he might not play regularly at Spurs, but Bale might be sold might go to a bigger team and he could have a chance there. Lennon is injury prone as well.

So I think if he had to choose between the two, Spurs were a good choice to make.
70k a week is not bad. But 50% tax is not nice.

If that's all he bought then yes but they need a creative midfielder
