Japan holiday

Doubt they have as much power in UK as JP. They literally have military bases in JP and their companies dominate there. The locals are not happy about the bases but can do nothing about them.

US funded the LDP in JP to ensure the Communists do not take over so it goes back to that.
Are you saying they don't have bases in the UK?

What do you mean by that?

After the war ended, US installed a pro- America regime. It's usually what they aim to do when they get into wars, often fails but in the case of Japan, it worked for them with success. If they did not do that, JP may have ended with a regime which was more amiable to China and anti-American which would have been bad for US interests there.
I was asking specifically about this:

and their companies dominate there.

I was asking specifically about this:

They dominate certain markets in Japan. iPhone seems to be one of the most popular (if not most popular) phone brand. Chinese phones aren't really a thing there and seem to have been kept out. Baseball has a cult-following and seems to be more popular than soccer in a lot of parts. This obvs benefits US. People seem fanatical about American culture, especially the young.

And herein lies the problem. They are a sucker for punishment.

Those are trends and seen all over the world. That is not "market domination".

Not really. US social engineered the place after the war so attitudes are mostly positive towards US and the West They mostly direct their superiority towards other Asians.

US has a lot of power there, some refer to JP as the 52nd state of the US.
In terms of work ethic, I would say they are better though, isn't it ?

I was the odd one. In standard 7, the boys decided by themselves to do a show and tell, biggest knife win. Some cool looking knives were on display.

Ek het nie saam gespeel nie.

Eyy bru, you are letting the bruinou reputation down there. Even I as a charou got 3 big machetes and bush-knifes for "cultural reasons".

$40 dollar per day to live like a king? Damn - I don't think one can rent a shack in CT for that price.

I paid around $600 US when I was there for business. That was 3 years ago. It prob is >$750+$200 now for a tiny 2 room apartment with a free 12yo wife. Those weebs love 'em young.

I can believe that, there is too much media content for it to be a fringe issue, they even have terms for their pedo fetishes.

Their work ethic has advantages and disadvantages. It is brutal. It is probably a big factor behind why their depression rates are high.

At the same time, Japanese efficiency is probably the best in the world. It is true. They work overtime with no pay, it is more of an expectation rather than something they are forced to do.

Some great reccomendations in this thread. Hope to visit Japan one day
