What's the difference between the two.

Both are sweet wines.

Since you were to lazy to google - you can click and read :)

Muscadel is also made from Muscat grapes as far as i know..with some other spirit added.
Jerepigo is also ruby red, and Muscadel is generally white, but South Africa in its infinite wisdom now also makes Red Muscadel.

You're not going to impress a chick over 18 with either of those.

Try cabernet or chardonnay.

What if he cannot pronounce the names? :D

'Found this quite cute:
I was amused to receive a tasting sample of Sophie Te'blanche 2009, a wine wittily named after what is apparently a local nickname for Sauvignon blanc.

A new brand from Iona, this wine of origin from Elgin bears a delightful sketch of said Sophie with golden tresses and long eyelashes - a babe who is as "seductive, elegant, complex and finely balanced" as the wine according to the hilarious press release.

Allow me to correct you.

Muscadel and Jeripigo are fortified dessert wines - not dinner/un-fortified drinking wines so they are not meant to replace Chardonnay, Sauv Blanc, etc.

You are meant to enjoy them as you would a Sherry or Port.

You will impress many, many mature, sophisticated ladies (Especially if they are dieting) if you pour them a good Muscadel after a classy meal.

Mature as in over 75? Is that what you've been dating?

I would also disagree.

Personal experience points to a good ruby / tawny port, a whiskey or an irish coffee. I havent heard one "sophisticated lady" ask for a Jerepigo or Muscadel in public in the last 15 years.

I guess its a Sandton thing.

Correct on the comparison tho - Wine vs Fortified wine is silly.

I agree with you that there are more popular after dinner drinks but I still think that if you have a lady friend over for a good meal you could do a lot worse than a good Muscadel to finish off the meal. It certainly is a classy option and not just one for ignorant teenage girls.

Personally I just prefer Muscadel to the alternatives you mention. It goes down easier than a port or sherry and isn't as heavy as an Irish Coffee after a huge meal.

i am going through an intense Grappa and Ouzzo phase....getting expensive....but i just can't help myself!

I just can't wrap my brain around Ouzzo anymore.

The aniseed flavour is just too intense. Maybe it is because I used to guzzle the cheap stuff as a teenager.
