The best trade-in I can get for my current Jetta is R110 000. I am looking at a 2014 Jetta 1.6tdi comforline, manual with 61000km at R210000 which means I am paying R100 000 for 2011 vs 2014 and 190000km vs 61000km. How do I decide if it is worth it?

Is your jetta a 5 or a 6?

Edit: never mind, see it's a 6. That's not really worth the change. This car won't cost you nearly that in maintenance over the next 4 or 5 years.

Just spend the cash to fix your current one, save the rest for increase in feul prices coming the next few months.

Plus the changes in those Jetta model years are very minimal ie. you are not getting a drastically better car vs your current one.

While I'm no VW fanboi and would recommend replacing it with a proper non-VAG alternative - in this case I would spend the money and fix it. That car still have a lot of give.

You do know you just buying the same car.
Rather fix the car if you like it or if you really want to get a newer car rather make it worthwhile and get one of the Audi's I posted above.

If his budget allows and he wants a new vehicle & has Jetta love it should be Passat/Passat CC or go home.

Couldn't find any within the mileage/Diesel requirement and pricing is too far out of the budget on the CC so the closest was Audi.

That jetta doesn't have any warranty on it at all, you can just as well just keep the car you have. Or get something newer with warranty.

Err yes we know that. LHD-only.

UK won't get it as well as they are a RHD market as well.

I drive about 30000-35000km per year. In two year's time I will sit with either one of the following:
1) 2011 Jetta, 9 years old, +-260000km, value +-R50000
2) 2014 Jetta, 6 years old, +-130000km, value +-R110000
Not sure about the value estimates so it could be R20000 more or less.
What this means is that I will lose R60000 on the 2011 Jetta over the 2 years as I can trade it in for R110000.
I will spend R100000 to 'upgrade' to the 2014 Jetta and it will lose value of about R100000 over the 2 years.
Looking at it that way it definitely confirms what most of you have been saying, keep driving the 2011 Jetta.

I doubt you will only get that amount for the jetta in a few years, even with very high mileage. Just go look at the type of cars you can buy for R50k even now.
