JHB police issues hijacker warning

Motorists should be aware that hijackers were posing as beggars in order to hijack people, Johannesburg Metro Police said on Tuesday.

Superintendent Wayne Minnaar said three armed men disguised as beggars hijacked a Chinese national man on the Marlboro road offramp from the N3 north late on Monday afternoon.

The hijacking was witnessed by community members who reported the incident to metro police officers.

Officers spotted the Hyundai van that had been hijacked and saw three men abandon the van and flee into the field.

The owner of the van was still inside the van when police arrived.

No arrests had been made.

Motorists should beware of hijackers posing as beggars around the Marlboro offramp on the N3, around the Corlette drive offramp on the M1 and around the Grayston drive offramp on the M1, Minnaar said.

That's why I say... F* beggers, if they want money they need to work for it, besides a guy that used to work with us can't see that well anymore, a "begger" came to ask for money and also said the wheel was flat or something while pointing at the front tyre the whole time... when he opened the window a bit, out came a needle with some sort of acid, which the "begger" sprayed in his eyes and this resulted in him needing to get to a hospital fast...
 
well a beggar has tried to jack me before so i give them f*** all now... he also kept telling me there is something wrong with my wheel, and wouldn't go away.. in traffic.

so i wound down my window a bit, he put his hand in. i wound up quick, catching his arm in the window, then opened the door into him. got out and gave him a few moerings for good measure then drove off. all the other guys at the robot just looked the other way. oh well, now i'm glad to have climate control, so windows up.. and my car will tell me when i have an issue.

this was by UJ by the way.

Well, why don't the Police depoly staff with the sole task of removing all the people endangering our lives and theirs at the robots?
Surely that's part of the Police's standard duty?

Exactly, the beggars are harassing us, they in the way and now they hijacking us!
They should be removed asap!
 
I must agree, issuing warnings seem somewhat pointless. DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT!!!

And I quote what Wayne Minnaar said a few years ago in our local rag about this-

"I cannot do anything about it because it's not my responsibility"

And there you have it, he will say **** to the media but he is really bottom of the barrel LICE as I mentioned earlier.
 
Same as those signs warning that this is a hijack hotspot.

Or the signs warning about potholes....Why not fix the holes instead of putting up signs.

So what does the police want us to do then? "Be Aware" ?? Ok, i see the beggar..what now? Shoot him? Kick him ? Drive over him ? What?

The only thing i generally CAN do is actually jumping the red light at these offramps [i.e. not stopping] when i see anyone suspicious (which would now include beggars) or when i'm basically alone there.... . And then the police fine me for that...so wtf?

Yesterday on Katherine Str, this taxi decides to push into my lane, hes already 3/4 in lane trying to steal a gap, I couldnt get into the other lane, because the beggars are running up and down the line... I had to just try and squeeze as much as I could hoping the taxi doesnt bump me!!

I think I should get a bull bar!!
 
I want to get myself a spring-loaded lawnmower blade and mount it to the underside of my chassis on the driver's side, then put a release catch where my hands can reach it. A guy in the States chopped off a would-be hijacker's legs with this.
 
True. A women was raped in an armed robbery in our area a few days ago. Two guys arrested, weapons and stolen goods recovered as well, two days later.
