Johannesburg - Residents of Johannesburg's city centre have taken revenge on a man who had shot and killed a policeman, assaulting him so badly he is now being treated in hospital.

Police spokesperson Superintendent Lungelo Dlamini said the suspected killer of Captain Judas Rakgole, 33, was badly assaulted by the community living in the city centre, and was now in a nearby hospital under police guard.
