Jk8 vs Dolby

IIRC all JK8 has done to his Polo is put a PD160 Intake from a Seat... oh and he gets 120kw on the wheels from his car..

He's obviously going to smoke you Dolby, since you won't even see him at the race. He's just that fast :p

Yep I agree, if and when JK8 replies on any of the posts where someone's calls him out, he completely difuses the question or sittuation and steer it off to something else...

JK8 - do you accept Dobly's offer or not!

I'm game ...

But the thing is JK8 with even refute that! We have a performance testing device - very similar to the Alfa's owner that Alfaholic knows. We've tested some of the cars JK8 has mentioned and downloaded the graphs to show him. He still disagree's!

For example, I got a 9.2 seconds in the RSI while the Citi got over 11 seconds (graphs shown to JK8). It's simply downhill from there and the Citi is many, many car length behind at 130km/h.

I totally agree with the fact that Toyota was optimistic on the power ratings. If they had mentioned 120kw or so, I think it would be different. However the only other 1.8 that comes close, is the Citi R Line. There's not a single other 1.8 that comes close. I tend to ignore the power rating and focus on the speed - and for a stock 1.8 at reef altitude to do 16.6 1/4 mile is quite something.

Value wise? Well, for R200,000 I got electric windows/mirrors, 6x CD changer with 6 speakers, full leather (seats, gear knob and steering wheel), ABS, EBD, airbags etc The car practical, quick for what it is and came with a 5yr/100,000km motorplan. It's a Toyota, so pretty reliable and I got R117,000.00 on TRADE after almost 4 years (just over 40% deprecian). I know cars that do 40% in 2 years.

Overall, it's not nearly as bad as people make out.

Yep . . .cars that do 40% in 2 years are Alfa's...maybe its even more!

Where is JK8...this will tarnish his reputation if he doesn't do something...

... and French cars.

As I say, there wasn't much in 2006 for R200k new that offered what the Toyota did. And some magazines were pretty biased (Topcar).

In the same same issue they tested the RSI (1.8) and the Renault Sport (2.0) and got similar performance times - yet they slated the RSI for not deliverying?

oi. leave the french out of this! :)

the problem i have with non-turbo cars is that they're fast, but only when your pistons are about to come through. I drove a clio sport once (old one) and its like dead until 4000 rpms when it suddenly feels like a steam train ... until the red line.

So the question is, Turbo (and relatively low revs but higher pressures) or normally aspirated at high revs - which is better for the engine?

Let's throw in a supercharger...

Keep in mind a turbo will kick in only above certain revs, but a supercharger delivers pressure even when idling.

Only drawback from a supercharger is that it uses engine power to drive itself.

I feel having high torque at low revs is better for the car (and engine) especially in city traffic.

(and I categorically refuse to drive ghei French cars....) :p

I'd so love a Turbo car...thus I was so interested in an Audi S3...but let's hope Alfa brings the 1750 turbo engines in the 159's to SA and in more models...coz the MiTo's 114kw is a bit timid...

yep, N/A cars are snails from 1000-3500rpm. Mine is alive from 3000rpm its very frustrating.

Just a small Q Dolby.
Do you have the Car Mag from Jan 09, the Hot hatch shoot out, I cant find mine, but i think the C30 was in there with the PGTi...(I think)
Post the times if you have it...

I don't ...

But since when do you listen to or believe any figures from motoring journalists? Everytime I should you that a 8 sec PGTI cannot beat a 5 or 6 sec, or dispute it saying they don't know how to drive?

Let me just try and salvage whatever forum respect JK8 has left here...:p:p:p

Sometimes that holds some wieght in gold...most drivers want to dice but can't - my cousin's E46 323i was eating my dust on more than one occasion...then only to find out he can't dice for *****...

that's my 2c and defense for JK8...but he needs to step up and say whether he's going to dice or to just agree that he's been talking a whole host of crap..the same things he accused me of doing, he's now doing and not attending to it...

It's not really a defense :/

Figures are not the end of everything of fully concrete. Obviously there are many factors and indivudal cars and drivers. HOWEVER, you cannot tell me a 10 second car will beat a 8 second car, as 'they know how to drive'!

Some of the cars JK8 has claimed to beat are ludicrous! I mean seriously - a 1.6 Citi Gold against an RSI? A Polo GTI against a JCW Mini Cooper S? Slaughering a Honda Type R?

Granted, they're slow up here and it would be close - but I wouldn't say you slaughtered most the cars you claim :/

My 2c

Here are a few cars acceleration, at the coast :

Toyota RunX RSI 8.54sec

VW Golf 4 GTI (110kw) 8.34sec

VW Polo 1.9TDI (96kw) 9.04sec

VW Polo GTI 8.24sec

VW Golf 5 GTI 7.67sec

Ford Fiesta ST 8.65sec

Ford Focus ST 7.49sec

Honda Civic Type R 7.75sec

Opel Astra 2.0 GTC 7.91sec

Mazda 6 MPS 6.39sec

BMW M3 (E90) 5.56sec

Disput anything?

you notice it the most on alfa's i think ! my car is like a 1L till it hits 3000Rpm then it can run with the 2's :P just forces me to always keep the revs up cause i hate having no oomph :)

and you will be proud to know that alfa are planning on bringing a 1.8 Twin Turbo'd 1.8 149 when it launches. with that 1.8 pushing out somewhere around the 200kw mark :P

that would be fair.. PGti 1.8 t vs alfa 1.8t ;)

thought those TDi's where slow.. mates always claiming how fast his is but he won't dice me :/ and one time getting on the highway at about 80, and i was behind him, and i saw him floor it, so i floored it and i came past him at about 130, then he claimed he was in the wrong gear :/

Stuff a race I want to see a fight to the death
