That's quite a number of certifications.... My advice would be to try to get an entry level IT job in a corporates IT department. My first job was at a tiny IT company and I just got shafted; they gave me the speech about learning, developing etc and then paid me 2k a month.

Working in a proper IT department can teach you how to work within proper service delivery guidelines, SLA, service delivery, change management etc. I interview people who have worked at small companies and they don't have a clue about call logging for example; they great end-user support guys but not suited to corporate.

Also, you have the certifications. In a corporate, with the right attitude, you will be able to work your way into a position that interests you. In a small company you may be stuck fixing PCs for years....

Don't worry about the salary too much, rather find a job that offers real growth - i.e. that has many different departments, networking, security, admin etc. and grow from there.

Hey I am sure I know you! How on earth did you find this place boet?

*Edit could have been when I wore Mybb shirt to college?*

I have exactly the same question. Since I am in the guys class, and I well sit next to him. (That's if it is who I think it is)

Not to forget we get a B-TEC international advanced diploma as well when we finished.

Thats awesome, too many people underestimate government when looking for a job. They have great equipment and its really easy to tailor a career path that suites you. Also, sometimes the level of competition is low, and staff turnover is high so its easy to move up quickly. The pay is not too bad either, more than a university graduate doing articles would earn....

I worked in the corporate world as database admin. Worst possible working enviroment ever created to man. You just another number in the 2000 people in the office. The company doesnt care about you and your interests. Moved to a non-corporate company now and i get more money + benefits + the company is interested in furthering my career, offering bursaries to help me etc. And this is after i have completed my BSc.

That looks like a Prestige Academy course... Correct me if I am wrong... Just get at least 2 years experience before expecting big bucks... I did the same course 2 years ago... Get a job in town... GOood pay... cherz

Hi Guys,

These courses you doing, what percentage makes up theory and practical?

For example after completing the CCNA module would you be able to set up a router from scratch and configure Vlans on cisco switches without resorting to your textbook?

Hands on experience is what you will need to build up and be competent in what you do, getting certified does not hold much value and i say that from an employer point of view. All it tells me is that you may understand the concepts but can you apply them in a corporate world ? If you a paper certified pusher then the answer is NO - if you had practical exposure to supplement the theory learned then yes that is a good starting point.

What i have done for the guys that work under me is setup a lab environment whereby they can learn and gain the knowledge in order to do their jobs better. It builds up their confidence and since it is a lab environment and not production they not scared to experiment.
These 20k and upwards 5 day courses/6 months/ a year's IT courses, most of these offered are a load of Bull**** Money making racket if anything. It teaches you very little and for that money spent.
I hope your course is not one of these.

A huge percentage of IT guys out there will tell you they can do this and that, what separates the men from the boys is the guys that are able to DO what they say right the 1st time around.

Good luck
