So we need to place an ad for a software developer after our one developer has resigned this week. Can anyone recommend any specific sites on where to place the ad? There are hundreds of job sites out there and I'm not up to date with which ones are more popular in the dev industry.
I remember we got a lot of responses with Careers24 when we advertised a long time ago, but not many usable applications.

Really not looking forward to this process again.

If you're looking for quantity, then any jobs board will do. You could even go direct to Indeed, as they track all the other boards.

For quality, try your networks (maybe even linkedin?) or maybe here on this forum.

We also have issues finding (quality) developers to hire. I interviewed and assessed a bunch, but the quality seems to be lacking as of late :(

Where are you guys based?

By applications, PNet and Executive Placements are seeing the most traffic.

Word of mouth helps even better.

Most better developers avoid going to the usuals.

But these people usually also look for a quality position, and might turn you down if they don't find it.

Thanks for the responses. I'll take a look at the sites.

Quality is definitely an issue. We've interviewed lots of people before over the past few years but eventually decided to rather keep struggling than to hire someone that needs constant supervision. That option is unfortunately out the door and we will have to hire someone now with the other developer leaving.

We're based here in Gauteng with our office in Roodepoort, but we don't require the developer to work at the office. Our bigger problem however is finding a VB.NET developer. Think they are somewhat scarce.

There's a reason vb.net is so scarce. its coz it's terrible.

Syntax is syntax, it runs on the .net stack. While it may not be the most elegant of syntax's i've seen far worse. Um pascal?

OK, correct. But still... VB.NET. Gosh.

Your logic makes no sense, if you have an entire platform written in this particular language, and if it works. It makes no logical sense to give yourself technical debt just to appease the masses on their language of choice.

Yeah... OP - place an ad for a c# developer and on the day they start gently whisper into their ear that they will be coding in glorious Visual Basic but that they shouldn't be worried because it's still .net so no stress.

:erm: Shame. You guys try so hard to lambaste a language, you'd swear you just got your first jobs. And i did not even imply he should do that. So run along..
