I loved this. Solid 8/10

Joaquin's name almost contains "Joker", makes you think...

I'm not so sure that Heath (R.I.P) would have done better in this particular role.
Visa versa

Absolutely my movie of the year. Saw it on Sunday and it was so well crafted. Phoenix's performance was utterly incredible. Gritty as hell and absolutely engaging. Personally I think Phoenix ran rings around Heath Ledgers Joker.

I don't think one should compare the two
Ledger played the Joker
Phoenix played Arthur and the Joker
Having said that I don't Ledger would have made a good Arthur

Different stories, different actors, and both did stellar work IMO.

This +100000

I enjoyed both performances. Ledger played the already-mad Joker brilliantly. Phoenix shows the audience how Joker got there.

The staircase sequences were one of the highlights in the movie for me and the meaning it had for Arthur.

This video explains why it has the leftists so upset. It deconstructs their narratives.

My opinion - it isn't as bad as the left makes it out to be and neither is it as good as the right makes it out to be.

The Left hates it because it shows that bad environments can drive people to violence, even white males. The Left wants to believe that white males become violent because they are just bad people at their core, but sometimes the truth is that abuse by their mother is what causes them to hate all women. Most serial killers had abusive mothers. The Left does not like this. They don't want incels to be humanized in this manner.

The Right loves it because the Left hates it, but honestly, as a film, I wouldn't watch it again. Its interesting social commentary and an interesting take on the Joker, but its not as entertaining as something like the Dark Knight. Phoenix is not as good a joker as Heath Ledger was if you ask me.

I read that the lefties (snowflake generation) hated the violence in this movie so much...that the cinemas in the US required additional security against the threats of violence from the leftards... I kid you not!!

Edit:
Ok jumped the gun a bit there.

"...given rise to a subset of the incel population called “clowncels,” per an FBI intelligence bulletin obtained by ABC News. This points to an even greater concern by critics that the Joker, who lives out his gruesome revenge fantasies in bloodshed, could actually provoke terrorism for viewers who might empathize with him. However, following an investigation of “clowncel” groups, the FBI determined that as a whole, they are not regarded as dangerous."

Watched. It deserves the immense hype.

Truly fantastic origin story. Narrative & character development is extraordinary. Joaquin Phoenix was a sight to behold, he is just phenomenal.

now, indulge me
Is it fair that people compare Heath's portrait of the Joker to that of Joaquin?
