JSE and share trading lessons: Your feedback needed

Maybe look into partnering with justonelap? They have quite a wealth of info in webispodes... They split it into trading and investing.

Make it happen rpm! Can't wait for marco to troll whatever pages you set up for this though... :D
Ahem. I'm still around and watching. Is this another competition that I have to win? I always win these. Have you checked the 2 out lately?

I know the basics of forex trading, but I would love to expand that and gain some confidence.

No Mad. You will loose ALL your money with forex trading. Leave it alone. I can write a book on this.

Marco, please explain just in few words your statement...

I have been trading on forex market over a year after another year of just demoing and studying everything I could find, do make profits on the market and not risking more then 2% of the capital at a time, I do agree greed kills and 95% lose everything in forex trading, but would be interesting to hear your opinion too.

Stick to shares Madman88. For once I have to agree with marco...forex is not the place to be unless you're a trader by profession.

My opinion would be to start with EFT's (Exchange traded funds), through one of the banks, FNB and Standbank have good share platforms. Something like Satrix40, Divi or Resi (depending on where you think the market is going).

These are extremely diversified shares and you won't beat the market, but match it. The idea is to get into the game. Once you have around R100k invested, you can start buying individual shares that you can hold long term.

Stay away from CFD's (contract for difference), tried this for 6 months, went grey and lost lots of money. If you are not a pro, this will leave you with endless sleepless nights.

Also from a tax perspective (income versus capital gains), investing for 3 years or longer reeps better rewards for first time investors.

Totally up for this. My name is Average Joe and I would like this to be designed for me. :D Thanks rpm!

Before I was a financial planner I was a Futures trader. Please dont try Forex, I have personally seen many people lose their money trying to make it big. There are no short cuts. Ask the father that used his daughters university savings fund to try and increase it.

BTW, the experts are idiots too, it quicker burning your money. There is no way you can have a high degree of control over the investment with that much leverage on a interday basis. But thats just my opinion.

If you are interested in virgin equity try brokers like the Sasfin house in Pretoria. Nice guys and they try and match the portfolio. For example if you are conservative, they would include stable industrials that have a good dividend yield. But this is for the guys with a R1,000,000 plus.

If you want to start something small, I use FNB, the option where you can choose your own shares. Dont know what its called. KIO is my favourite share and the Bollinger bands technical analysis method on that ticker has been kind to me. But i dont have the time to watch it as I should.

It's only halfway in the challenge, lots can happen in 6 months...
We'll see who's the best at the end of the year ;)

No ways. I never think negative. Perhaps those 1c and 2c shareholders might win but I negate them as they are not Managing but Gambling and should not have been allowed to do so.
I have already won the 12 month ShareNet competition by a large margin.

Getting an education on the general share environment is a good way to start if you are to achieve future success when trading online shares. Online share trading platforms are a simple and efficient solution for investors wishing to trade on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange. These platforms help investors establish, and personally manage, a JSE share trading portfolio.

Online traders can execute real-time share transactions, in a 24/7 environment. To be able to trade online one has to open an account through an online brokerage. The JSE offers an extensive list of all JSE members on its website all of whom are registered with the Financial Services Board.

The JSE provides a wide range of investment products for the private investor including equity products (shares, exchange traded funds, exchange traded notes) and derivatives (single stock futures, options, index futures, CFDs, currency futures and options and interest rate derivatives).

On 1st June, the JSE launched the Virtual Trading Game, a risk-free online way to learn how to trade shares on the JSE, while having fun doing it. The game teaches you how to strategise, spot trends and calculate your next big trade to become the next big winner.

How the Game works:
• Pit your wits against other players with a virtual R1,000,000 to invest on the JSE.
• Build the most valuable virtual portfolio, and you could scoop up your share of R60 000 in prizes.

Best of all the JSE will never be a mystery to you again, and you will open doors to the exciting world of investing.

There is no quick way to learn.Take a stock and track it price everyday to understand how it moves.see how news/sentiment affects your shares and in my mind stay away from dummy accounts. It does not teach you anything as you not using real money.Rather take what you can afford to loose and buy a small amount of shares.Stay a way from FX .In amrkets anything can happen!

Anyone that beats the STXINDI with their investments are better than most Fund Managers.
