Footage has emerged of EFF leader Julius Malema appearing to fire what looks like an assault rifle at an EFF after-party rally over the weekend.

However, EFF spokesperson Mbuyiseni Ndlozi denied that it was a real firearm.

The political party celebrated its 5th anniversary at the Sisa Dukashe Stadium in Mdantsane in the Eastern Cape on Saturday.

The video shows the EFF singing and dancing on stage. During the song, Malema goes to the side of the stage and appears to fire several rounds from the rifle.

He then hands it over to a man, who appears to be Bluff security company owner Adriaan Snyman, who then quickly ducks out of the camera's shot. Malema then gives a high five to EFF chairperson Dali Mpofu.

Last time I checked it was illegal to discharge a firearm in public... but not for everyone it seems. Too bad he didn't shoot himself in the face.

Looks like a real gun to me.

What is he trying to say?

Care to explain the muzzle flashes?

When asked if he was present and took the rifle from Malema, Snyman told News24 that he was not aware of anything. "Phone me back in the morning," he said.

Well... going back,

The burly bodyguards, armed with M14 semiautomatic weapons, are dressed smartly in black, with white shirts and red ties.

Judge Colin Lamont ordered their removal from the courts and yesterday they appeared without assault rifles.

Snyman confirmed that he owned Tactical Security Services but refused to answer questions on who he was assigned to protect. His attorney, Ivette Calitz, said in a statement that media reports contained a “number of factually incorrect and false information”.

What the incorrect information was, Calitz would not say. The company also refused to say who had hired them.

The first thing I do before reading articles is to check the author of that story. I can’t expose myself to fake news writing by discredited journalists like Jenni Evan and Kyle Cowan. Nonsense

Assault rifle with blanks is not harmful.

:crylaugh:

Maybe our local ‘security’ experts can shine light on the situation, or is this an we protect our own situation?

Looks like a real gun but loaded with blanks, given there's little in the way of recoil when he fires it.

Surprised how small the crowd is.

Love the idea of Malema fooling around with firearms. Expect apartheid to be blamed when a fighter accidentally gets shot.

Send EFF fighters to Syria...

Ou Malema will piss his pants when real bullets are shot at him, and he can't hide behind his racism...

It is not about whether the gun is real or not, it is all about what message that action conveys.

Everyone is going to do anything to win votes, no matter how foolish. This is irresponsible.

Can't be blanks. You need to back pressure of the bullet leaving the chamber in order to cycle the weapon. In training exercises, the military uses something called a blank firing adapter, or BFA, which looks like a muzzle brake and is quite obvious to notice.

*disclaimer - I haven't watched the video, as it is blocked, but from the thumbnail it sure doesn't look like it has a BFA attached. So unless he is cycling the weapon manually, there is no way he is shooting with blanks.
