June Telkom Internet Capped Users

hi LabAnimal, can you post about when (what date) your first account was capped, id you don't mind? thanks for sharing!

your teory for the 3GB->10GB, don't want to sound pesimistic, but I don't think it will happen, at least not soon. Remeber that only telkominternet is the one that offers "you buy 3GB you get no one knows what". If they officially start offering 10GB for the current price of 3GB, they will have to drop their wholesale price, which I don't see it happening ... hope I am wrong!

yea maybe - I'm just attempting some Chinese Math :D - out of all honesty - i do find the term quite racially inclined! - so no offence ment.

However, the 192k i used to get roughly 35k - 40k - then it dropped to 20k average. now i'm on the 384k, and i'm getting roughly 56k (doesnt sound right for a 384k line - no?)
and yes, just checked my router, 512k down, 256k up.

yeah, have to agree, but remember, the telkom management fell off the trees only recently so you can't expect much more :D

same here, only that I didn't upgrade to 384

I think I am gonna get a TelkomInternet account and just use it slowly, maybe to 5GB max, then use another account with WebAfrica if needed.

i like how people say " Done 8.5Gb's when you can't really tell howmuch you did till the following month. all i know, is the one account is sitting somewhere over 13Gigs capped - not a clue how much i did. My second account is over 5Gigs and climbing...

Squirrel - as far as i know, only the 3Gig packages from Telkom - but someone posted earlier that they went over by 6 odd gigs with their 2gig package from Telkom... so maybe you'll get 3Gig - you'll only know if you try...

Telkom doesnt have a 1Gig package... do they ??? If its a non-telkom package - don't hold your breath!.

I thought Telkom did have a 1gb package
nope, but I think both 2 and 3 gig accounts have the floating cap thingie .. I think it is proportional though, if you get 9 gb on 3 gig packages, you will get 6 gigs on 2 gig package

if you have a brain, you will go for a TelkomInternet account, regardless of any "principles".

if you think you'll save South Africa by not supporting TelkomInternet, then you are a silly git.

Not at all.

Depends A LOT on what you are going to use your DSL for.

You know that as well as i do, Postman.

Very well said Postman ... :D

Capped. A lot less than I got the last few months. I got over 10 for three months in a row.

And yes Telkom Internet is the only way to go, principles be dammed.

The interesting part of the equation is that out of the 150 000 ADSL users in SA, MWeb claims to have 50 000. Imagine that the smaller ISPs make up a decent chunk and TI has the majority of the rest.

How can TI afford to provide the random capping system (they say it is economies of scale) then why does Mweb not follow the same principle.

Maybe it is because they actually have to post a profit.

well I think that using telkominternet you actually contribute less to the overal telkom profit. Lets say I download 10 gigs this month and I paid R250, this is R25 per gig. If you go to any other provider, you pay at least R570, from which R500+ go to telkom, or they make R50 per gig that way ...
