afternoon

just picked up a copy of WoW - EU version.

on the outside wrapper is a small sticker saying that I get one month free access, but I dont see any mention of it inside the box... next to the cd-key... nothing...

Can someone please confirm this?

Thanks guys

Yeah you get 1 month free. It's not an additional voucher since all copies sold come with that free month.
It's that free hit of cocaine that gets you addicted.

Before you load the patch and finish the installation - take your wife/girlfriend out to a movie- its gonna be the last time you see her in a while

As mentioned above, As you create your account online, you get the 30 days free added to the account. The account creation requires a credit card to verify you are able to pay :p But doesn't bill it untill your out of gametime

Thats not true at all. I always ./wave when I see her in game. :P

that addictive?

Well I doubt it can be THAT addictive...

Another thing, I bought the battlechest, so I got the expansion with it. Do I go ahead and install everything and then just play, or should I just install WoW?

Im a bit worried about these patches I heard about... I have to update the game I imagine, how big will the download be? That is why Im thinking that I might as well just load the expansion too... that might contain some of the updates??

You already bought the license for the expansion. So load it. But there will be patches after that I'm afraid. Several hundred megs if memory serves. :/

Oh yes, and it IS that addictive.

Install the expansion as well or you won't have access to the 2 new races.

Its not THAT addictive...I've been able to go on trips and so on without craving WoW...but when I get back I usually log in first before going to the loo or something :p

Also lately I've been logging into WoW as soon as I wake up...to check ingame mail :o

Not sure how the BattlePack comes but you need BC if you want to choose the fifth races from each faction.

I would install both. I think at the end you'll be sitting on WoW 2.0? So to get to the current version (2.4.0+) you'll need to download a ~1GB patch! Ouch!

Maybe you have friends who can burn it for you? I am sure most of the WoW guys here would be able to help you source it.

Don't create/activate your account till you're setup. The game time starts counting once you create it!

Install both and connect, the launcher will then start the download for the updates. it's about 1.2GB worth of patches, so you should be online late tonight or tomorrow morning :)

wealth of know-how

Well arent you guys just the wealth of knowledge... thanks!

It sucks that you HAVE to register with a credit card. I would prefer to use prepaid vouchers, but what you are telling me is that initially I need a credit card to register, which will allow me to make use of my free month?

I have heard reports of people saying that you have to use a FAKE address, but also that apparently now you can use a local South Africa addres. Can you confirm this? I'd like to get all this out of the way now...

this might be a bit of a ask... But does anyone here have the patches that can get me up and running? I have a 4mbps line with a 3GB cap...1.2GB for a patch is bollocks!

I stay in Edgemead in Cape Town... any takers?

No that was ages ago. Put your real address and real e-mail ;)

And yes you need a CC to activate the account first time. After that remove the details

You needed to use a US address when WoW first came out back in the day (was the only way to play it) if I remember correctly.

Now, with the EU edition, you can use a South African address. But, here is something interesting. When Blizz has promotions and stuff they usually exclude SA from it. If you used a UK address (or Country that Blizz considered ok with promotions) you can circumvent this.

Take the current recruit a friend promotion, won't work if you registered your account with a ZA address (not eligible) but works flawlessly with a UK address account.

Is it right to do so? Not my call...

ok so can anyone help me out with the patches so I dont have to download 1.2GB this evening???

Oh, and HTC. If you want to play with the majority of ZA guys. Twilight's Hammer is the realm to pick (although this is a PVP server, so beware). There are also a few other ZA guilds on EU on the other realms, but the majority is on TH - Horde Side.

At this point Im more interested in PvE.... I just wanna run around and kill some things and get some levels. Ill look into PvP at a later stage.

Can you suggest a good place to start PvE? Ive heard joining a guild is the way to go so you level up quickly...
