Reading the AH threads, people have been having issues for months on end with the service and all they get every day is just the usual "its your exchange", "we are looking into it" excuses. I was one of those people, and even though I still have the odd capped account as a back up my main accounts were cancelled and I moved to other ISPs.

Yet, it seems that many people are quite happy to pay for a service they aren't receiving, and the excuses range from "While I pay them they will fix it" to "It is difficult to move ISPs"

How loyal are you to an ISP? How much would it take for you to actually decide that you've had enough and want to go somewhere else? I'm not talking about the odd incident that happens from time to time, I'm talking about issues for weeks on end.

* This isn't an attack on AH specifically, I mention them since I was with them but I'm sure that other ISPs probably have similar issues.

It really depends on the amount of Admin involved for me. I always way up the amount of problems vs. what effort will go into switching to someone else and then decide if I can just live with the issues. Also moving to someone else may give me slightly better network performance but bad price, bad user control panel, stupid cancellation terms, etc.

I don't mind paying more for a service that works, hence moving away from AH

Loyalty? They're all out to make a buck but as long as they don't give me cause to switch I won't.

ISP fanboy warriors perplex me to no end.

Can someone give me advice on who to swap over to? i really should sometime as afrihost isn't doing their best anymore... i cant stream very well and downloads could be better... Uncapped home account from who though?

Not one ISP is perfect. They all have issues. As MickZA points outs, first ensure that the underlying cause is not with your ADSL service itself.

I've been with Afrihost on a permanent basis now from August 2013. Before that, for on and off periods depending on how my uncapped was elsewhere (*cough* OpenScam). I have had my fair share of issues, but I am happy to stay on. My ADSL line sadly isn't of great quality anymore, but it's not evident enough for a Telkom techie to fix, so if there are minor issues, my line won't know about it.

What really keeps me there though, is the total price I pay at Afrihost for my 10Mb line and 100GB, has not been beaten by any other ISP out there (well in SAfrica at least ;) )

I suppose AH isn't too bad... is 900gb a lot to download in a month on home account? it seems they may be shaping me slightly.....

Loyalty is earned through the years, but decay at a faster rate than it is earned.

Some guys on here are so brand blind they would make perfect ruling party supporters. LOL

I have zero loyalty to ANY business. I pay for a service. I expect that service. When you no longer can provide that service, I move on. End of story. Even if I have used said service for x amount of time. Don't care. Will drop your service the second it no longer meets my needs and expectations for what I pay.

Zero loyalty but some months I just couldn't be arsed to cancel & all that rigmarole, so i resign myself to another round on the carousel.

Having said that I find my ISP accounts (WA & OW) stable enough, I really wish there was another option for ADSL lines thought I would leave Telkom in such a flash.

I only stick with AH's ADSL mediocrity just because they haven't rolled fibre out in my hood yet (coming soon!) and their pricing plan isn't bad. Also, whenever I've "jumped ship" before, whichever ISP I've switched to rapidly declines (probably since it is usually where everybody else is jumping ship to at the same time).

In-a-fckin'-heartbeat!
