Just refund me now Afrihost

I hit the 30 gig mark this weekend and only when hitting the forums to see if others were having a slowdown did I hear about this 30 gig "limit". When I signed up in March it wasn't in the conditions. How can they change them without letting me know and then say "sorry, no refunds for April". Was there a "you must keep up to date with our policies via the mybroadband forums" in the terms and conditions?

They should've at least sent out a general email to all users , I decided to stay and see how April was gonna be , have decided now to go to mweb.
Read somewhere that if u sign up the 15th u pay for half the month.
Can anybody tell me if this is true ?

No, although the refund offer was specific to MyBB users. Their TC were, however, updated on their website. At least for 4096 users. If you're a 384/512 user I'd press the issue because there STILL is nothing on their website about shaping those speeds.

Ah, I didn't know the refund was only for the forum users. Still a bit shocking that they can change the terms so significantly without you having to sign off or agree to them. Nevertheless, I'll stick it out to the end of the month and then go over to MWEB.

Bull****, anybody who bought this service and was under the impression of its product expectations should be entitled to the refund, where you get this "only mybb" users from i don't know

Gian posted a response to questions on mybb. In the response he said he would refund ppl that personally PM'ed him with their details.
Also he would cancel the following months fee even tho it was after the 25th.
So if you were not reading the forums , you would not know about this.
I think they should've sent out a general email about it.
I decided to give them another month.

If you have decided that our Uncapped account is not
for you and you wish to cancel please do the following
to help us refund you as quickly as possible:

1. Cancel your Uncapped solution in your Client Zone;
2. Send an email through to [email protected] with
the Subject: Uncapped Cancellation (MyBroadband).
3. In the email please specify your Afrihost username,
the product you want cancelled and whether you
would like the pro-rata sum for March also refunded.

To be perfectly honest, I think a refund was a show of goodwill of Afrihost's part. If you've used 30GB I don't think you're "entitled" to any refund. Pay for what you've used.

Well he is stealing from the masses then. Funny how he is not on or responding to the forums anymore( no i havnt looked im assuming ).

Your assumption is correct. Gian's last post was 31 March 2010. He hasn't said a word this month. For that matter, I haven't seen anything by ANY Afrihost representative.

I disagree, however, that Afrihost is stealing from the masses. If the masses use bandwidth they must pay for it. No, I do not justify them changing TC without informing their users, but I think the only reason that so many are demanding refunds is because Gian offered it. People cancel with their ISPs all the time for various reasons and don't go on demanding refunds for what they've used.

I agree, but i also disagree, thou we wont go into that discussion again due to the fact that there is about 20 threads about the T&C's. I was not one of the ones shafted by afrihost, because well ive had terrible experience with them in the past. But it boils down to it, you are paying for a circuit speed and not being given that, anyways. Im with mweb and apart from some teething issues im happy

I never said it's okay to change TC. I said if you agreed to pay them it's not stealing. Stealing, by definition, would mean them taking your money against your will.

Companies are allowed to change their T&C's without informing the user/client.

However, nothing (the last time I checked their T&C's) indicated what action they would take on the 384 lines. 4Mb is clearly stipulated. But with the 384 lines it's arguably not valid (their throttling to 70kbps) unless they have a "if you place a burden on the network" clause.

The easiest and fastest way to get your money back is to go to your bank and ask them to reverse the debit order(s) that Afrihost deducted from your account. I think that you have about 3 months time available to request the bank to reverse it, after that it is not possible.

Yip after mid-month, I'm pretty sure it's the 15th or 17th then you pay half.

Granted, but surely they have to publicise up to date TC somewhere? Afrihost haven't done that yet for 512/384 users.

And risk being blacklisted? Nah they can keep the measly 100 bucks or whatever it is.

+1. I'd be very careful of this approach. I suspect if it went to court and you were found to reverse charges for a service you actually used you would not be viewed in a favourable light.

If you've used the service in April, forget about a refund.
To be fair, I think it may be a case of varying reports.

I canceled my account today and asked them to confirm that I will not be billed for next month (no mention of a refund). They responded saying that the full amount will be refunded. I thought that was nice of them, so I replied saying that it's not necessary as I have used it for half the month so a pro-rata refund should suffice. They then insisted that the full amount be refunded. I mean I had to fight with them NOT to give my money back :D

Good stuff on that front AH, although I will still be keeping a 1GB capped account as a contingency plan.

Why should there be no refund, they changed the T&C which Im fine with, however they LIED, after 30GB they are throttling line speeds. I want a full refund.
