HI can anyone tell me if they have problems with the K3565-Z.

I've done an "upgrade" on my data contract and got the K3565 stick from
E220. Installed the software and it connects to vodacom network but I simply cannot browse. I've been to Vodacom 5 times. had the stick replaced (eventually) they gave me a new one and the same bloody thing. My old modem still works fine so its not my contract or the sim.
I'm using vista home but does the same on XP.

Any help please... since vodacom doesn't seem to know what the problem is.

I know there were issues with the E220 modem a while back and it was also a case of people being able to connect, but not browse. The K3565 to my knowledge were/are not affected by this as it comes with the correct software...but give it a go and see. Please follow the below steps and see if it helps. If not, perhaps Vodacom3G can chip in and make a suggestion.

• Open or launch the Vodafone software on your computer
• Click on SETTINGS menu
• Then select APN
• Select the MANUAL APN settings radio button then type in the word internet in the APN field.
• Leave ALL other fields blank and click OK
• Click on connect and proceed browsing.

didn't work.
New software only has VPN option and its set to manual already

To be honest with you Corbin , I think that the E220 is a better modem especially if you have upgraded the firmware , it then becomes 7.2mbs capable .
Perhaps just use that one then , but I agree , the K3565 should work .

I cant see on your profile where you are, but Vodacom have a dedicated data customer care centre in Eastgate mall. Lower level opposite FNB. 082155 might also be able to assist. What you might also want to try is this. Go into Add/Remove programs in Windows. Remove all Vodafone related listings there. Once that is done, restart your PC/Laptop. Then plug in the K3565 and let it re-install compeletely. I had a similar case where the client got a K3715 modem (he had a E220). To get the new one to work, we had to follow the above steps. It seemed to cause some kind of conflict. Hope that works.

What i noticed about the K3565 is that it creates and uses a LAN/Wireless connection and connects via that(with the Ethernet adapter it installed) instead of the normal dial-up connection that uses the modem. Still not sure how it works or why that approach was used.

As i workaround i disabled the clients PIN from his SIM and just created a shortcut of the dial-up connection on the desktop. Connecting via that with the K3565 worked. He could browse.

[EDIT]: Funny thing is i plugged it into my machine and it connected and browsed no problem. So there was obviously some conflict on the clients machine.

Thanks for the help, but nothing works.
Had it on vista machine , XP , with anti virus , without....niks.

Taking laptop in to vodacom and demand they get it to work

Hold thumbs

you can go to your nearest Vodacare branch and ask them for VMC 9.3.0.
uninstall the current one on your PC/Laptop and install VMC 9.3.0.
this version creates a dialup that works.

I got the K3565-Z and had exactly the same problem than you. No browsing!

Seems that either the LAN connection that the Vodafone software creates conflicts with other existing LAN connections or adapters on your PC; or the software tries to prevent ICS(internet connection sharing) over a LAN.

I struggled for days, contacted Vodacom, ran around getting software updates--nothing worked until I finally unplugged my home LAN connection on my PC and everything suddenly worked like a charm!

After another 2 days (because I do want to share the 3G connection between my PC's at home) I finally figured out that you need to make sure that your Gateway in the IP settings for your LAN connection is set to your Home LAN, or use DHCP. Now I can use, and share the 3G connection on any of my PC's without a problem.

If there's a LAN port on your laptop and your not using it--try disabling it and see if it works...

Vodacom 3G Connects, but bytes wont transfer!!

Hi,

Apologies if this has been posted already, but I could find no reference to this in this forum:

I installed the Vodafone Mobile connect v.9.4.4.1772 using the K3565-Z USN modem. I have a Windows 7 machine, I also installed the hotfix on Vodacom's website. It connects just fine, but there are ZERO bytes getting transferred. Meaning every time I connect to a website/browse I get a page cannot be displayed error.

Any ideas?

I've checked just about every setting in my Broswer (IE and Firefox) with no luck.

Please help!!!

hi,

did you find a resolution for this? I have exactly the same problem.

Regarding the 2 steps mentioned here, i am not sure how to check for DCP, or how to create the dial-up separately..

any help would be great thanks.

All along it was working

I have the same problem, I was using the old modem and it worked fine with its old software, then it just stopped working after upgrading to the new software (downloaded from vodacom.co.za), I thought the problem was the old modem, went to buy a new K3565 - Rev 2, installed it, it never worked. I was using Vista Business, I downgraded to XP pro it just didn’t work. I am having Sony Erricson Networking Software installed I ran the modem with that software still not working.

The problem here is that, it will connect fine to the network and will SEND data to the server, but it won't RECEIVE anything.

I REBOOTED or installed my vista OS _ not working
I REBOOTED or installed my XP OS _ not working

Called Vodacom - they cannot fix it.

ANY HELP?

Connectivity issues - various 3G stick modems

I am just sharing my experience here - maybe it will help some others and shed some more light on the whole issue of connectivity. The issue as described is exactly the same with the K4505Z modem.

First off - Vodacom help desk apparently does not understand this issue as I have spent several hours with them on the phone ( I even have a current investigation going on my local antenna so their support enthusiasm is not to be faulted) - they either do not want to acknowledge that there is an issue with the technology or they are genuinely in the dark about their equipment.

Secondly - the problem comes in the moment you connect any other connections at the same time as the 3G modem - in some instances you just lose transfer of data (sometimes only incoming while outgoing still works..) while the modem still shows "Connected" and in other cases the connection is dropped completely. These other connections can be any of the following: WinMobile Phone plugged in via ActiveSync or Nokia via their software; Wireless LAN intra-office connection e.g. to connect to a wireless printer; LAN connection via cable. I am not using any Bluetooth devices from my PC or Laptop so not sure if that will also cause the issue.

Thirdly the software does not "listen" to or apply the "best connected" settings and does not ignore any other incoming connections it considers to be better than that supplied by the poor 3G modem. The "best connected" could still be set on the 9.4.4.17702.RP85 software (although it did nothing in any way to solve the conflicts) but now cannot be set on the upgraded 9.4.8.21929 version. In this regard the Help file refers to options that is not even available in the VMC application.

Fourthly the problem exists exactly the same on both Win XP and Win 2007 and from reading this thread it is not only stupid PC ignorant imbeciles that are stuck with the problem and it is definitely not limited to one single machine or operating system or area - only one verdict about what the common factor could be then...

Fifthly - I have wasted almost ten hours on this already and that is taking money out of my pocket - Will Vodacom refund me for that expense caused by using their improperly tested equipment and software????

PS: And while I was typing this tale of woe - the connection dropped and VMC app also lost all traces of the device so I could not even reconnect without unplugging the modem and closing and restarting the application.... Now that is technology that works for you!!!!

HI,

If you have more then 1 internet connection that is active, the OS will select and use the connection that is the most stable/fastest if my mem is correct.

@Lourens_JB : have to tried downgrading to the older VMC 9.3.6.12095? I feel VMC 9.4.4.17702 and older was made more for Windows Vista and Win7. I'm still on XP and I still use VMC 9.3.6.12095 without issue. I tried upgrading to both VMC 9.4.4.17702 & VMC 9.4.8.21929 on my WinXP and it just caused strange problems I didn't like. I hated that best connection nonsense thing. So I un-installed everything and just re-installed VMC 9.3.6.12095.

I don't think it's the OS choosing the connection, it's VMC.

@nuyork - thanks for the version number.

After considerable problems with that same modem I ended up solving it so easily by simply downloading the generic software from manufacturer ZTE. This has the added advantage of allowing what VMC generally will not: swapping SIMs from different providers, e.g. MTN and Voda, and the ability to use the modem outside the country. You can dig for detailed background, instructions and the generic dashboard software for many 3G dongles including this one at http://3g-modem.wetpaint.com.
