As long as I have the contents, the box will be kept in case we move again. Moved three times from Transvaal to Cape and back without needing boxes for all appliances and big items.

Yup I also keep the boxes for the duration of the warranty
Then throw it away unless it is an item I might wanna sell later
Like 2 weeks ago I gave a tv away I hadn't used since I bought it in 2017, put it in the box and gave it to a work colleague, Everyone thought it was brand new from a shop the previous day.

If you plan on selling something later and put it neatly back into the original box it shows the buyer that you cared for the item carefully, get more money for it, and respect

Keep the box. When the insurance company askes you to prove that you had such an item, you just produce the box.

Thought about this a while ago. I think if you just walk through your house and video record everything you see with your phone and then just upload the vid to google drive or some place safe then at least you have video evidence that the stuff was in your house.

Other: Depends on the box. I probably wouldn't keep a Smarties box but I might keep the box for a Philips Airfryer™ so I can return it if it failed to satisfy.
Missed opportunity for *satisfry.
