I see that Afrihost is still offering their R29/GB special offer. And, it's having an effect. :)

My current provider has just offered to match Afrihost's pricing on a 20GB package. Guess they're taking some real strain losing customers to Afrihost. Too little too late I'm afraid -- I've already made my move.

Let's hope Afrihost can keep up the pressure long enough to make a sustainable difference to the industry.

* wonders to himself whether Afrihost is truly selling below cost *

That's interesting :D

With which provider were you?

am gonna give them a shot on Monday.sounds too good to be true but havent seen anyone complaining so im jumping onboard

Good news... :D The industry is listening. Those with their own pipes, can sell at the Afrihost price and still make a profit.

Thank you again Afrihost!!! :D

so one day when we all get R5 a gig we can all look back at Afrihost and say thank you for starting the revolution :D wishful thinking i know

@bawrak: Existing provider is SAOL and I've had nothing but good service from them the past couple of years. And, they've been providing the 20GB package at R999 (effective R50 p/GB) for that whole time, when everyone else was charging far more per GB. I also appreciated that I could log on at two locations with that single account and that they at the time did not differentiate between different line speeds (they do now, but their per GB cost was the per GB cost irrespective of if you were connecting at 4mb/s).

I emailed them about a month or two back asking them about whether they would be adjusting their pricing down in light of Seacom landing and the fact that many other ISPs were starting to offer rates that were now competitive with theirs. I asked because they've historically had some of the best rates in the industry for a long time. They replied that they were looking into it, but couldn't give me anything concrete at the time.

Unfortunately, their offer to match is too little too late, as I've already signed up with Afrihost now. Especially if they can match Afrihost and still make a profit (and they would have no reason to do so otherwise), because then they've been screwing me along with everybody else all this time.

I've heard from a source inside do Broadband that the Telkom wholesale price per GB is somewhere around R25 (and I've heard cost figures of around R7). Not sure if this is true, but if it is then resellers have been making 100% (and higher) margins for quite some time on what should be a volume commodity.

Also, does anyone know the relationship between SAOL and Cybersmart? All my SAOL support emails come back with Cybersmart ticket numbers in the subject line...

Interesting...

However, for SAOL to drop their price is fantastic. It's what we want and we must not hate those who follow up on Afrihost's offer, with price drops of certain of their products.

It's what we need. Each ISP can offer super low prices on one product, without it being a risk to their income.

Congratulations SAOL! Thank you for also being part of the revolution! :D

well it certainly was nice to start off October with paying 50% less and 50% more cap.

no, we will send people to afrihost, let the ISP's suffer a little longer haha!

at R49 a GB they will still be cheap! and it might be R45 even!

I got so excited - signed up - and now have 18GB at my disposal - don't know what to do with it :(

I am very impressed with the service level of Afrihost. Got myself an account with them and it only took about 5 minutes!!!
Keep it up Afrihost.:)

Hehehe! Don't say that in MyBB...you'll get sworn at! You're supposed to be a hardcore gigs eater when you hang out here! :D

I used to use about 100GB a month - but now I can't think of anything - downloaders block (as apposed to writers block) :D
