Anyone know if these are different?

In the other thread someone mentioned that registering a Kenya address as opposed to a US, means that there are no vouchers (pay per app, like Blackberry apps) and I can use my South African credit card.

If this is the same as the US - or even 90% - then I'd prefer to do this

Most apps are available - including the common games. Movies, music and series not available.

I prefer using the USA store because then you are not limited in any way and also if they do decide to change the policy regards then Kenyan store then you won't be stuck.

Kenya App Store is great if you want to use your SA Credit Card to buy Games, instead of vouchers. They lack Music and other media, for that you still need a US store ID.

Hmmm .... I think I'll consider it.

There's no issue with have both a US and Kenya?

I have an SA one currently and I was advised to create a new one. Is there no way to simply convert my SA one to either US/Kenya? Thing is I registered my SA one under my primary email address ... and I'd like to keep using my primary address

Just change your address of the SA one, you can change it back at any time, and see if it has what you need.

Just Google maps Nairobi, get a street name pick a house number and enter that. Postal code is 00200. Then change the country to Kenya.

You can always add a US account if you ever need music or TV shows.

To change the SA one to USA you will need a US Credit Card that can be faked but I would advice against it. I would rather create a US one with no card and use Vouchers only.

Err.

Kenya account ONLY open up a few more categories in the APP store (Games specifically etc), that's it.

USA account on the other hand opens up the entire MUSIC and MOVIE stores too (buying mp3s/movies and even renting movies). Even if you don't buy your songs from iTunes, if you have access to the stores you can at least preview songs and check out the charts etc.

So if you only want to get access to the games and a few other categories in the app store, go Kenya , as you will be able to use your credit card. If you want music & movies thrown in , you need to go USA and then you need to buy vouchers.

why does Kenya have a better itunes and better/cheaper internet than south Africans?

Can read this for some background:
http://www.thyon.com/blog-entry/items/apples-lack-of-games-music-movies-tv-in-south-africa.html

But in short:
South African law requires that all games need to be reviewed by the Film and Publication Board before the game can be made available to the general public, there is also a cost to involved to get the games reviewed & rated . Apple has simply removed the category instead . Sounds like other companies with similar stores have made deals with the FPB on how to handle all this, either way Apple most likely don't give a crap about a little country like SA to bother going through all our red tape.

How much do your $0,99 games go for on there? I'd gladly make the swap to be able to not have to buy Gift Vouchers anymore.
See there are a lot of specials now over halloween that I'd be interested in. Just wonder if they will be the same prices on here or if it'll only be reduced in the US Store.

Will have to do some checking tonight then.

Same specials, I just picked up Sparkle for free http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/sparkle-the-game/id354123737?mt=8

Suppose to be a one day special from http://www.appallstar.com/Home.aspx

The pricing doesn't bother me too much - as timmie says, it's the vouchers and the ability to use an SA credit card.

Though - now I know there are no ebooks, I may have to do the US anyhow

For ebooks i would still recommend to go with amazon (kindle app) . Especially since you cant even read the ibooks on your windows pc while the kindle app is on every device out there. Also much less hassles with region et al.

+1

I use Kindle + Zinio purely so that I can read my media where I want is not locked down to iWorld

Movies, series, and ebooks you can source from anywhere. Avi files need converting but that's quick and painless.

As said previously, nothing prevents you from having more than 1 account; I'd however suggest if you prefer 2 accounts; that you keep 1 account for apps, and have the other account for music / movies / tv shows. Imo vouchers are really not that much of an issue... Multiple accounts are a pain in the butt.

On the ebooks side; amazon store is more complete than apple -- major concern is that the diagrams are poor.
Overall I still prefer to purchase many of the books as PDF, that way I avoid the DRM lock down and can share just like you would with a real book (apple and amazon are DRM locked).

Best to have a US account and an SA account for local stuff, more SA accounts should hopefully be incentive for apple to consider us.

I just have a US account, you can get all the local stuff too.. Your iPad is new, before you make the mistake of getting more than one account just do it properly and get the us one.. It's a pain having to login to separate accounts to update apps etc, well I found that.. Now I only have a us account and buy vouchers through wild twig, it's not that much of a mission, open a PayPal account, put in your cc, buy voucher and get it instantly! If you don't want to buy vouchers often just buy one big one! Just to give you an indication of myself in the 1st month I brought about $85 worth of vouchers, now I just buy on a need by need basis!

Having 2 a/c is a tad pain re: updating but I have some apps I use that were free which I got from SA store and are no longer free so I don't have too much of a choice when they get updated, I am not gonna buy them again. I did have a UK a/c once too from when I was there but never use that - 3 is just WAY overkill so I only have a ZA & US one now.
