Kewl Kitchen Stuffies...

Expensive knives are a good investment... they stay sharper longer, are just better quality and last alot longer... buying cheap rubbish knives means u just have to replace them more....

and a knife set that cost R14k will never ever ever go anywhere near cash converters.

You can't prepare food in five star restaurants using a Katana, though. Not to say that I don't love Katana's! But the real ones are crazy expensive :(

You can prepare six star food with nailclippers and a penknife but it might take a bit longer. BUT given the portion size that ends up on a plate who really cares what knives they use. The quality of a knife does not a chef make. Lord knows there's too many ****awful "chefs" in the Mother City.

I know a few work at Spur ;)

Wait, I think i'm going to buy all the Jamie oliver stuff... just think about it... i have a plan, there is a plan!

Imagine this;
I bring this girl home, she walks into the kitchen (stick with me!) and she sees Jamie oliver stuff... imagine how they think (THIS GUY COOKS IN STYLE)

I'm so getting some!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D
In the morning, I wake up, slap some eggs on a pan or whatever, toast in the dodgy toaster, she won't know the difference! :D

You're going about this all wrong... Or maybe I'm just different?

Girl would say, "Oooh, expensive kitchen utensils!" I'd say, "Wanna try 'em out?" Thus, I don't have to do anything and someone else makes my food! :D

And I'd be like, "Get your bitchass back in the kitchen and bake me some pie!"

:D Cartman rules...

Do they have nice cutting boards?

Bamboo (I think its Gordon Ramsay crap) from Woolies are great - theres a place called 'Mainland China' in CT where you can get the same thing for a fraction of the cost. They alsio have machetes like you see in old king-fu fliks and other interesting stuff. If youre a fan of the dinner party its definitely worth checking out for inspiration, maybe they have other branches in your area.

Looky what I found;

http://www.yuppiechef.co.za

I'm not really into stuff like this, but when you check out the prices and compare them with what, say Mr Price, their stuff is pretty much the same price and the stuff is COOLER man!

I think I need to 'replace' some old style stuff with the stuff on Yuppie Chef's site. ;)

Guys; show your gf's or wifes this site and they'll be impressed at you, or think you're trying to score points.

 AVO SLICER!!! OMG! WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN ALL MY LIFE!

I think if I met someone and he had all these expensive things in his kitchen, I'd think: Woaw, this guys got lotsa dough, make sure he buys me lots of expensive presents! :D ;)

I just saw a Dust repellent Tomato Polisher. How many Yuppies here have bought one to polish up their fruits and veggies so they look nice in a bowl next to their set of sexy Kitchen Knives?

I haven't, but it sounds like a good idea!

Was at @Home today with missus - she wanted to buy some bday presents - and good heavens they have some nice things. Awfully overpriced though and there's this one table in particular that's rather attractive but it's R2400 for three pieces of wood and the workmanship isn't even very good. I just took some pics and will have it custom made sometime :D

Best ever cutting/prep board a polished piece of granite!

When you are getting your new kitchen fitted (ha ha as if in the current interest rate cycle!) ask them what they do with the piece they cut out for your sink or stove top! It's yours... ask them to cut and polish it for you... our granite guys did it for us for R50.. ta da granite cutting board! :)

*shock**horror*

You're suggesting I might want to repeatedly bring my perfectly honed blades down onto a rock?

No - I'll stick to wood for my cutting surface thanks. ;)

Slight thread hijack -

We need new kitchen cupboards and a sink and whatnot as the ones we have are old and rotten :(

Where in Cape Town can I find a place that sells them and how much would I be likely to have to pay? I am talking about the melamime ones, not wooden ones...

Hmm and all that old meat and chicken and other food stuff that penetrate the porous wood only to resurface when next you prepare another meal on it? No thanks... i will rather invest in new knives every few years! :)

I'm in the same boat. Builders warehouse has an expensive operation going on after you read the small print with a telescope and add in all the extras.
There's a melamine cupboard manufacturing outfit where you can buy assorted standard kitchen units at fixed prices at the showrooms visible under the bridge on the Woodstock turnoff on the N1. But who's going to plan and install?
There's many kitchen companies charging prices from the moderate to the obscene. But you can act all interested in their kitchens and you might get a free plan for your space if you give the dimensions as they have software programs which we don't.
Then you can do what I'm doing. Get a carpenter. But buy the knobs & handles at Builders warehouse or if you really want to splurge go to a specialist importer.

ya, I just want something simple. Small kitchen, can fit the things myself and install the cupboards. Hard to find websites with prices for this kind of thing and the ones that there are are really expensive :(

Go to Semble-it 11 Beach Road, Woodstock

OR

Melakit

52 Marine Drive
Paardeneiland

You won't find cheaper unless it falls out of the sky or unless there's a pirate market in kitchen cupboards.
