Hi all,

So! My GF got a Kia Picanto and there are a few questions I was hoping 'someone' here could answer because where we got the car "Kia" the guys don't seem very clued up - I could explain why but I'd rather just not bother.

She got a normal key to lock and unlock the car but she saw this online and was hoping this would work for her car;

Where does one get this locally and then to get it setup so she doesn't specifically have to use the key part just the unlock button and lock button part, where does one go? In Cape Town?

Also, any good 'recommendations' for a place in Cape Town that would do Smash and Grab and dark window tinting for her?

what model and year? picantos since 2011 came with this key, if it is the previous models then no this key fob won't just work you would, you would probably need to do after market central locking.

Ok, will post when she's back, it's a normal key though - it is central locking, but you have to put the key into the drivers side door for it to "central lock" :(

She also (being female) wants a visor with a mirror in it (driver side)

Where do I get that?
How the hell doesn't it come with it...
Does KN not realize that woman have make up they sometimes need to do ? :D

This is the keys she got.

Your pretty screwed then. I can't believe a 2022 model Kia comes without remote central locking :/

You can ask the agents if they can aftermarket fit the OEM central remote locking, I would imagine it's going to be insane expensive, those okes charge like R2500-5000 just to cut and code a key.

Or you can go aftermarket and affect the warranty, which means you will have a separate remote but use the same key for starting.

Overpriced mediocrity, but why would Kia even bother if people are prepared to buy it like that?

South African buyers have given manufacturers like Kia permission to get away with this sort of nonsense and the manufacturers are taking full advantage, imagine spending money to retrofit all the things you were supposed to get installed on the car to begin with.

You buy the fancier model spec, this is why they exist.

So it’s possible you can just order the part from Kia for the up spec model and fit it.

If people don’t read the spec sheet how is it Kia’s fault? Where does it say any of this was “supposed to be installed”. If you bought the base spec delivery van version that’s entirely on you.

Seems like some massive assumptions were made with this purchase and very little research.

Clearly no test drive was done.

Kia is still taking advantage of our buyers trust in them, not saying it is Kia’s fault that South African buyers are not doing their homework, that's why I did clearly state that our buyers are their own worst enemy.

Some time ago on this very forum I criticized Hyundai for not having stability control on their cars, even on the entry levels the top, expensive models, while their prices were up there, even posted the brochure to prove it. Someone boldy replied that they must have forgotten to put it there and there is no way they don't have VSC.

That is the kind of buyer we have here, go for the brand first and pray that they have everything you need installed.

Seems like they already own the vehicle
I was being a bit of a prick, but surely you check the specs before you buy a car.

In the slightly used/demo market the price difference between the basic Start and higher spec Style models is only around R15k, you're better off just buying the slightly more expensive model if the features are important to you.

It's odd that a modern car still uses an old school key though.

Yes,

In fairness I don’t really think there is much use for STM/ESP/ASC or whatever you want to call it on something so small and low powered.

I bought a Kia knowing full well it didn’t have those features because I just didn’t see them ever actually coming into play.

Op did you buy the vehicle new because that looks like the dummy spare key, hopefully you bought it secondhand and the previous owner just lost the remote key, if that is the case I can recommend an affordable place to make up a new remote key. Maybe phone Kia and give them the VIN number and ask them if the car has remote central locking which seems to be the case given you mentioned the door lock does activate the central locking motors so they are installed.
