Kindle books on PC

Amazon.com on Tuesday released free software that lets people read the online retail titan's electronic Kindle books on personal computers.

The new application can be downloaded free in more than 100 countries

this is what I loathe about the current internet business models - release the damn thing everywhere, or not at all.
Not that I want Kindle, what with their draconian DRM rubbish, but anyways.

Then the eBook market as it is currently will definitely not be for you. The geographic restrictions publishers place on books is plain idiocy!

Mentioned this several times already... but MobiReader is free, unrestricted, works on your PC and cellphone... and can import from almost any format.

Why bother with something that is inherently crippled? When you can get something much better for free. Is it just because it has the name Amazon associated with it?

I use eBooks a lot. Mobipocket rather than proprietary. Fictionbooks sells to everyone - and use CLIT to remove DRM from lit books.
Amazon can shove their product imho.

My thoughts exactly. I refuse to use a propriety system. I'm just waiting for my reader to arrive (not a Kindle) and have found a few sites that offer DRM-free books. They'll get my money - not Amazon.

Ah, Fictionwise - them I know. Unfortunately they've also been adding geo-restrictions to more and more books. The multi-format books are still available everywhere.
