Hi forum,
my mom is interested in running out tomorrow and buying an e-book reader or kindle? can anyone suggest where I can look online for some.
It does not have to be the greatest. Any advice please ?

Theres a guy selling these brand new here in Paarl, his contact details is
on his website here -> www.genesistrading.co.za

You can even buy the items from him on bidorbuy.co.za just search for "kindle" and you will
see his items listed in the top 10 search results.

His items are on-hand and in stock so no waiting time :)

Genesis Trading selling the following :

Kindle Wifi version - R1439
Kindle Wifi + 3G version - R 1939

Courier fees = R55 or local pickup.

Makro selling them for R2K+

Curious about why she doesn't want to buy from Amazon.
Anyone know if the Wifi model with special offers is available to SA? It's $114. That's less than R800 plus shipping. And it takes 5 days to get here.

So with shipping its about R1 200 right to your doorstep, and does it include the charger?
That seems to be the most cost effective option.

The non 3G wifi model will be ideal for her.
Why? Do you know that PN's mom has access to a wifi network?
My experience is that the 3g model is perfect for a non-computer person.

@PN: as others have said, go with Amazon. It gets delivered to your door, by courier, within a week (Usually :))

I would say go Amazon however consider that should a problem arise, it will be shipped back to Amazon overseas (i stand to be corrected that theres no fee to this) but Makro is local so support is here. Thats what some users where suggesting in that thread.

So in essence

Amazon
*Cheaper
*Only takes a few days
*Expect some delay for shipping to and forth for repairs.

Makro
*Pricey
*Almost instantly available
*Local Support

IMO save some money and go Amazon :)

Oh and just to add - If no Wifi for her then 3G is good as stated above and its on their Whispernet - 3G data to download books is free (for other things do some research)

+1 for Amazon. I can't understand why one would want to buy one locally.

Makro = R2400.00 approx.
Amazon USA (Incl. Shipping) R1700 - R1900 approx.

We are going to get one for my gran. Either from Amazon or from that guy on bidorbuy.

My gran is only gonna be using it to read the books. She won't ever download them or browse Internet. Will the wifi be fine then?

Amazon's support is amazing. G/f dropped hers and it gave problems. So I called Amazon support (GoogleTalk, for free) and after 5min was told they'd send a replacement for free. Once I received it, I shipped the busted one back to them, and they refunded the shipping.

Pooks :p...sorry , err...you should be fine :)

+1 to flarkit...Amazon rocks now cept they need Paypal back :(

Yes Pooky, the wifi one will be just fine for her.

There are numerous stories around about Amazon's great service, definitely the way to go IMO. A mate of mine ordered one on Thursday, and it was delivered Tuesday morning 8am.
