I chose the 3g keyboard version over touch or K4 because the experimental browser on the keyboard version allows browsing any website for free. Sure its not great but it works for gmail and iol and quite a few sites. The touch and k4 are locked to two websites. Amazon and wikipedia. Note: kindles from IC do not have icasa stickers last time i checked where as makro do. Making the only legal place makro. Even takealot is supposed to sell with icasa stickers but they dont.

Also the one from ic is not ad supported.

If the IC model is actually ad supported it makes their pricing even more ridiculous ... I'm pretty sure the demo ones I played with in the Kolonnade didn't show ads though.

Also recall the ads only started once I'd registered & setup payment details on my wife's Keyboard 3G from Makro.

The only way they aren't gray imports is if you order directly from Amazon. And in that case you'll have to return it to Amazon, at your own cost.

Amazon handles it.

Fire maybe never. The Touch probably sometime early in the new year.

Many people have said they don't get ads on their ad supported version outside the US. There was a set of adverts that were on the device when it was sold, but once updated the advert areas went blank.

I had the figure of R1599 in my head, but it could have been R1499. The demo K4 I was shown had ads hence my question what was the price for an ads free one?

It's under R1400 direct from Amazon.

Same here - 1499 - no ads - registered and connected.

With the current exchange rate 1499 is actually only about R150 more than directly from Amazon (when shipping is taken into account) and of course, no waiting for delivery (couldn't live without mine after my 3rd Gen was uplifted at the airport)
