Kindle Paperwhite

Oh it's life changing.

I can't imagine how it would have been without a backlight back in the day, but the Paperwhite is magical and more so the newer one with the ambient sensor.

Still figuring that bit out as I’m trying not to use it as much until my cover and screen protector arrive.

What I’ve noticed is that like with phones I don’t like the orange tinge that comes up with the warmth / blue light filter so I’ve minimised that but often adjust the brightness myself as it still is too bright.

I’ve tried the dark mode but the white text jumps at me so the standard background with the ebook lighting does the trick for now.

Yeah **** dark mode, it needs to be banned from all things.

The brightness slider is a minimum value, so set it as low as you can stomach and then enable Auto Brightness. It can be a bit slow to update.

But yeah I've turned the warmth option right down, there is no need for it.

It was like reading a grey book printed in grey, still better than a phone or tablet on the eyes but you needed ambient light.

Paperwhite range looks better but I only turn the light up enough to make the page look white.

I'm a big fan of dark mode everywhere, except on Kindle. Dark mode feels very wrong there. I primarily buy and read physical books and maybe my brain is too used to that, but no thanks. I do use the warm backlight a bit, but hate that setting everywhere else. Kindle seems to be the outlier when it comes to device settings for me

I've had the gen11 now for more than a year, but haven't bought a cover yet. My previous Paperwhite had a official Amazon cover but I'm still just looking at those prices and then closing the tab. Maybe one day.

Don’t cheap out on the cover.

You’ll have that Kindle for years and the cost now will fade into insignificance in the future.

I don't disagree. After keeping an eye on the local pricing for a bit, I planned on picking one up the next time I have to travel for work. But... accidents have a way of happening "in the meantime".

When we lose power I can read a paper book by candlelight, but it takes about 2-3 candles and you need to have them right behind you.

With the backlight things become a lot easier.

Bit of a blond moment for me.. I got so excited to use the ‘email to kindle’ and then ‘send to kindle’ features that I had to google only to find out that I could just transfer files straight to kindle with a usb c cable to get around the file size restrictions
