King praises apartheid regime

This homelands BS is a relic of apartheid.

The idea isn't too bad. The problem is that they had little to no independence from national government and they didn't have the economic means to be financially independent.

The people living in Orania are probably quite happy where they are

Its a terrible idea.

There are no means for these "kingdoms" to be financially independent. Instead everything at government level is replicated at kingdom level, double the bloat.

Who cares about Orania, they don't require our support so whats the issue ?

I'm on about the smugness of the Anglophone world who don't appreciate the desire for people to maintain their language and customs and a strong sense of sovereignty.

Another reason why Europe and the UK should stop absorbing refugees.

Great....

Start a thread about that then. Not sure why you are posting here.

It relates to the statement that homelands are Apartheid legacy. People have no consideration for the historical vision to maintain cultures which stand in contrast to the Imperial vision to assimilate all into an English speaking realm.

As they were implemented, they were designed to be entirely dependent on Pretoria. If the intent was for them to be financially independent and properly autonomous as opposed to a dumping ground, they probably would have fared as well as the rest of South Africa.

Really ? Because autonomous state are so successful in the rest of Africa ? In principle I agree that they should have been completely autonomous and sovereign, but the historical entailment of South Africa is more complex than that and the unification of South Africa under the British Union of South Africa has a lot to do with it.

They do reasonably well in the rest of the world.

Yes, I'm all for nation states. Culture does exist and groupings of people should stay homogenous to the extent where immigrants can be assimilated into the host nation, not the overthrow of identity as the path is currently leading.

Maybe .... this has to do with the Zulus. Who is actually the king of the Zulus?

Mangosuthu Buthelezi WANTS to be the baas, what with the IFP an all.
The King is SUPPOSED to be the baas, but he has been given the royal finger.
Zuma IS the baas, Zulufying the ANC key structures.

Oddly enough, the IFP rules Nkandla, where JZ is supposed to be king .....

Me .... I used to be a baas before 1994, now according to the EFF I am just a baas Ted.
(satyre, jest ... not to be taken in a serious light.) ^^

But then the immigrants say that their culture is being oppressed due to x, y and z.

And hence we see that multiculturalism does not work. Immigrants should either assimilate to a host nation or stay in their own country of origin and develop their own culture there.

Multiculturalism does work, if each culture is allowed space to develop independently.

Switzerland is a pretty good example of this.

Granted that it is a multi-party federal directorial democratic republic, not a rainbow nation.
