One of the scenarios in my mind is what the government will do when the real depression hits the USA and Europe soon. They'll be under tremendous pressure to competitively debase the Rand, enact import tariffs and increase exchange controls, which could lead to inflation and a vacuum of foreign investment. If this happens you can bet your ass they'll go wild with subsidies and price controls, which will fail of course, leading to a lot of civil unrest.
My only hope right now is that the Reserve Bank and the behind-the-scenes comptrollers of finance seem to be segregated from the ANC claque. Sure, they're part of the power elite, but I'd rather have those guys acting in their best interests over the politicos and stooges.
