Knife edge

or hang out with dictators and support them in their human rights abuses is ludicrous
Ludicrous perhaps, but certainly not unusual. Even under your rock you must have heard of obscure countries like the United States and United Kingdom.

so called democracy
Nothing so-called about it.

will be tested and fail hard
I get the feeling you really want it to be so.

Maybe this country is screwed because people lack a can do attitude.

It's not even worth replying in this thread, same old BS. This country has to fail mentality cannot see anything else.
All they crave is that "I told you so" that is never going to come

Never say never ;) This country, some could and would argue is already failing. Should I list the failings again?

What you would list is a chronic problem that SA has had for many years, and countries like Colombia has had worse. Look AT Colombia, they had a coke epidemic with much worse crime and a ruthless dictator. They didn't collapse, they are growing and a lot of their issues have been solved. They never went the way of Zimbabwe, total stagnation, nor Germany's war.

Come now marine1, I was with you 3 years ago bashing SA every chance I could. If I could evaluate my feelings then I could tell you right now, I wanted SA to fail. I wanted to laugh at LancelotSA and say "I told you so"

Failure is NOT an option

PLEASE use an African example.

Which African country that has had some upheaval has ever returned top its former ( more beneficial ) status ?

I do not want ( SA to fail ) -- but I fail to see any shining examples of very successful states / countries / nations in Africa.

Yes, please list them again.
(I've never been banned, btw, and am not a troll)
Electricity collapse or on the verge? The blowing up of that turbine that will cost between 1-3 billion to fix, due to negligence. Eskom is a complete joke with power cuts on the increase, just wait for Winter. Water supply is almost in the same boat. Treatment plants on the brink of collapse. Soon we may have to import our drinking water, oh wait....
Roads, potholes everywhere, highways will be awesome but who will afford to use them, with all the new tolls?
Petrol going up and up and up, why not do away with fuel tax, oh right because then the ANC will lose out on more gravy.

Telkom, lets not even go there.
Massive corruption in the police. Been following the news lately?
Should I go on?

In what areas is this country failing ? From what I can detect ,in all recordable areas that have been meausured the country has moved in the right direction.

Yes. Downhill all the way.
This country reminds me of the Titanic.
While the ship is sinking; the band played on.

Telkom is mostly a private company
Really? So then why is it listed, genius? Who is the majority shareholder of the said public company? Talk about stupid, gets banned and eeps coming back.
https://secure1.telkom.co.za/ir/sustainability/shareholding.jsp

The government of the Republic of South Africa is the largest shareholder in Telkom, holding 39.8% of the Company's issued share capital. The government is the Class A shareholder.

Idiotic statements ......

What a dumb and stupid observation. In 1994 only 30% of people had electricity. Most of the country drinks tap water now compared to a tiny percent then and Telkom is mostly a private company. Petrol is going up world wide and still realtively very cheap here. The roads are better than they have ever been. Gulping down the Kool ade are we ?

True.
But those 30% actually PAID for the priveledge of having electricity.

Who wants to drink piss water from a tap where there used to be drinkable water?

Are you trying to tell us that we should be grateful for living in a Banana republic with third world African standards when we were used to so much better?
LOL!
You smoke good ****!
Durbs green?

Shame he doesn't understand that. What a waste of time to argue with rooster, again.

But it is so much fun. It takes max 90 min to contradict himself.
It always makes for good fun. Specially if he goes and dedicates a whole page in his blog to you.

I'll stop :o

If banana republic describes this country in 2011, the banana that described us in 1994 was very vrot indeed. 30% of people had electricity. 70% lived in mud huts. What a ****e hole !

Do that 70% have homes now?
Do they even have jobs?
17 years later and we have more homeless and unemployment now than we had then.
Welcome to the ANC utopia.
This is a wonderful country where everybody are gainfully employed, have electrified homes, have a belly full to eat and can drink tap water from a tap and have a smooth ride to work on a road without any potholes where you can put your trust in the police service and the government.
