If they topple Oom Paul there will be a lot of very peeved pigeons hanging around with gyppo guts. Whole families and generations of pigeons used his hat as a bog, you cant deprive them of that. In pigeon lore that statue is legendary, I bet if Pixar knew about it they would make a movie about it.

History can only be recorded ......... not changed.

If you have built something then it gives you naming rights.

Wonder why we still have that hideous statue of Queen Victoria in Cape town ? .... to remember ........ They are creating a false identity by trying to erase/change history.

The victor gets to rewrite history as they choose. Do you think there are Hitler statues in Germany? France, Holland, etc (Not that I am equating the two, but you get my drift)

I dont think that works as well in today's world. Where the victor used to be able to control the flow of information that is no longer the case.

Some things are just not worth remembering, you say. We still have the statue of P Kruger in the middle of PTA... statue of Botha in Dbn.... SA was once under the British rule and then.. only the queen's statue is a problem for you. I wonder why?

You must either be insecure or a retard. That is not what I said ....... if you want people to remember something / someone then you build something to honour it. Somehow being the king of a dungheap and a few sticks does not qualify.

What you don't do is tear down what is already there. I don't have a problem with any statues, they are "mostly" works of art and ensure that unemployed poverty stricken artists can make some money as well.

To want to tear something down just because you don't like it is a sign of weakness.

My point is that after 1910, we did not uproot all the statues and change all the names of towns. We chose to record history. Half the towns in South Africa are named after some English lord / drol etc.

How strongly do you feel about what you are trying to say ?

Because somehow you are just not getting you point across, or do you even have one ?

I just re-read your previous post. Please accept my apologies, I did not read it properly the first time. I had gotten the impression that you din't want the queen's statue there! So my point was how is it that you don't complain about the other statues. Anyway, my bad so please forgive me.

Do they really think by removing statues ect. they will rewrite history. It changes nothing except take away from our culture. In the past we where separate. Aren't we supposed to be one nation now? Or is this just reverse roleplaying.

who or what exactly is a dungheap and a few sticks. are you refering to the king's subjects or his royal abode? I think you should learn not to revert to responding with hostility, derision or condescension. It makes you look weak and it undermines the point you are trying to make.

Apology accepted. Don't try and read to much into what I write. The reference would most likely be to the royal abode and the lack of grandure.

Nothing said here will change the world outside.

Nope, just felt like throwing a tantrum. Hope I didn't dent any ego's.

"a storm begins with a ripple"

"one word can change a world"

"a well-honed paragraph is more devastating than a nuclear weapon"

"whole armies have been fed on a promise"

"sometimes/most times language is all you got"

"the internet will herald the new democracy, free of all the bull****"
