KUILS RIVER (CPT) ADSL

I speak under correction but I think Haasendal, Amandelrug and Soneike all connect to the exchange next to the KFC next to the Post Office. Zevenwacht has its own exchange.

In De Kuilen you should get a great connection as you practically live on the exchange.

Oh okay didnt know that. lol I do practically live in the exchange. I did have a great 10mb connection, emphasis on "did".

Yip, looks like we all in the same sinking boat. (me located in Soneike)
After 3 weeks of struggling with Telkom about my poor connection, they have now finally admitted that there is a problem at the exchange.
To date they can not give me a timeline on how long it would take to resolve/fix :(

Also, you can only have a single call/fault reported per telephone line!!!

Been calling them at least once a day to get updates, but no such luck....

Yeah, I logged a new faultthis weekend and they haven't gotten back to me yet...

I stay in Soneike and for the last month the internet has been so broken. So here is my rant: about a month or so ago our line went dead for day or two. So we logged a fault but didn't receive any response concerning it. Then the line was working again, but it was not performing as it had in the past. I logged another fault and the response was that on their system everything was fine. I then phoned the help line and the guy helping me reset the port, which achieved nothing and agreed to send a technician. The technician's findings were that there was nothing wrong with the line.

I'm certain that everyone that has posted in this thread is familiar with the symptoms plaguing our lines, but this is not the sort of speedtest result that I expect from a "4Mbps" line:

A bit more than a week ago

Last week

This weekend

I have tried swapping modems as well as using different ISP accounts and it simply does not affect the terrible speeds and latencies. So all in all I have no idea what to do and haven't been able to game online in a month.

Luckily im with cellc so i have been using my phone as a hotspot at 15c a MB so its not too expensive to play games. There is nothing we can do unfortunately besides keep pestering Telkom to upgrade the exchange.

Telkom tested the line and said nothing was wrong....but I insist that I was not getting what I pay for.

Longlast my problem is solved.
The techie that phoned me said that my line was connected to a "bad" rack within the exchange. My line was changed to a different /new rack and it was problem solved.

Ping speed about 45ms

Download speed 4.2 mbps

Upload speed 0.42 mbps

I have a 4mbps line

I think this was one of the biggest problems in the Kuilsrivier area with ADSL. If you still have problems I would think this is a good time to lodge a new complain again.
This guy was the first one that really made an impression on me....

That's useful to know Operator, I will try and see if Telkom can look into this on my line too...

3 weeks later... I guess I am glad there's a resolution to all this

Oh and I logged a fault in September and still no word

FFS. Finally had a call back from Telscum saying a techie would be around tomorrow sometime to have a look at the line....
Had a techie here 3 weeks ago also checking the line and saying all was fine :(
Lets see ...

Progress to date:
Techie phones me on Friday morning saying he will be at my place around 13:00.
Guess what, he never pitches.
Phones me around 14:30 saying he will not make it anymore but will fix it on Saturday.
So I explain the whole story to him again just to make sure.
15:30 he phones me to say I must check my link. He put me on another rack as mine was heavily congested.
To date it is looking better as pings is now way down to around 100ms, but I think it might be that the complete exchange is congested, as speed is extremely up and down.

Guess it is this speed upgrade that is just killing the exchange?

I agree, the exchange can't handle the speed upgrades.

Seems all of us on the 021 903 exchange is screwed then... Had very good speed and latency after the initial upgrades, but also the last couple of weeks my latency has gone over 300 constantly to local server in Cape Town which I normally had a 8ms ping to. Playing BF3 is impossible like this. Also swapped out the routers, ISP, etc. Agree that it seems to only be the exchange. Telkom tested this line as well and said that everything is 100%

Also in Soneike

Fault Reference: 1028CWK221012

So far had a phone call early morning and explained this thing to then. Someone will go look, but yeah guess keep logging calls and hope someone decides to take action.

Followed up with Telkom apparently I am the only one on this exchange complaining about this... :(

Got some feedback that there is enough backhaul bandwidth in this exchange, seems to be some configuration that needs to be checked. From the explanation I got this seems to be fairly easy to do, so lets hope for the best and our lines could be purring along again soon.

I am very hopefull that the person I spoke to could assist. I reffered them to this post and they agreed to look into this for me last night and I got some feedback this morning already about what the problem seems to be.

Telkom moved me to another port this morning after testing the line and saying nothing is wrong with it, obviously. Congestion at the exchange is never a line fault. Had some low pings after that but obviously everyone else was still sleeping, now that they awake pings up to 300 again.

Had the same done with my port.Helped a bit for a bit but then back to usual 300+ ping. I mailed the CEO her office contacted me twice.Final result is that the exchange will be upgraded but she cannot say when only that it is in the planning stage. They will contact me with a date when they know. So suppose all we can do is wait.
