Q: What is the definition of dwarfism?

A: Little People of America (LPA) defines dwarfism as a medical or genetic condition that usually results in an adult height of 4'10" or shorter, among both men and women, although in some cases a person with a dwarfing condition may be slightly taller than that. The average height of an adult with dwarfism is 4’0, but typical heights range from 2’8 to 4’8.

The title is offensive as well as posting like this is a game of hide and go seek.

Seriously how about focusing on does she have her cellphone with her and is it on? What was she doing the week before.
The police should get involved in getting her last cell whereabouts. 1.1 meter is not that short so don't know the reason for the derogatory name calling.

Some may find the term "dwarf" a little offensive, but it will attract immediate attention & probably get faster results than a generic description such as "woman missing, 1.1m tall, 78kg".
Anybody who has seen the term "dwarf" as mentioned here will immediately be reminded of the search for this woman if they see someone as short as her.

I honestly think that 'little person' is far more offensive than dwarfism. A person is more than just their appearance...

Kinda helps if you're spreading the news around to do so in a manner where identifiable information is easily disseminated. A dwarf is a dwarf. It's a an acceptable, inoffensive term to describe people who suffer from dwarfism. People now know to be on the lookout for a dwarf. I also don't see the issue. Had it been an albino I'm quite sure reference would have been made to it as well...

And what do you mean by "a game of hide and go seek"?

She is not the first or the last person to be poster on here as a missing person?

Time is of the essence in cases like these. If she can be found before any harm comes to her then great!

Re-reading the OP and my mind is thinking she met up with someone her family didn't approve of or maybe even internet dating.

ye, if they hadn't mentioned it specifically people might have thought she was just short.

It might be technically correct but the don't agree in the manner you posted it.
Instead of just linking you post the sisters posts calling her a midget as well which is derogatory so you clearly don't care that much what you post.

I do have a problem with your thread title. I am sure she has many other attributes apart from being short. You could have put 20 year old woman from Durban is missing and then in the description allude to the fact that she is a dwarf. I would have no problem with it but instead you put the title "KZN dwarf missing".

Mybb has very high SEO and she might be suicidal and reading this thread with jokes brought on by your stupid thread title trying to focus on her being a dwarf instead of 20 year old young woman that possibly ran away from home and is vulnerable right now is stupid.

For those who are going to argue with me saying it is not derogatory then first before you decide do you have a problem with me posting a new thread with title "Bald and obese middle-aged man is mybroadband member of the year" with the photo of GaryvdW. Would you have a problem with me posting that Gary?

WTF are you going on about? The title is from Sapa; the description is not offensive; the quote is a direct quote from her own bloody sister; and you're the one turning this into a debate about her height and making assumptions about her well-being. Nobody else is doing that.

If you have an issue with the thread title then report it, but "little-person (the acceptable nomenclature for dwarfism) missing" would draw just as much attention.

What on earth are you expecting here? The jokes are inevitable - whether it's mentioned in the thread title or discovered later. Would you prefer that her height not be mentioned at all? Should it just read "person missing - no details allowed because nfbs has a stick so far up his arse he's germinating flowers in his gut"?

As far as I am concerned this is one of those many areas where the description the person themselves uses is what should be used. As far as I can tell most persons with dwarfism are quite happy being called dwarfs and would take offence at being called "short people" or "height challenged". I know several people with had physical disabilities who proudly identify themselves as crocks. The title catches attention and may aide in resolving the missing person.

I would be perfectly happy for a description of a good looking white guy with an afro and awesome beard to be used in a missing persons report.

To be brutally honest, the only reason I clicked on the link is due to the wording that caught my attention

"20 year old woman missing from Durban" would not have got the click.

To my mind the current wording serves it's desired purpose a whole lot more effectively than the generic & vanilla "woman missing".

Um that is not my thread title. That is SAPA Thread title. And all other articles and quotes are taken directly from her Sister's facebook. So please take your pointless little whine elsewhere.

I complain about trivial shjt

Would it be derogatory for me to call you mentally handicapped or would you prefer I just call you 'special'?

Dwarf is a perfectly acceptable term for people who suffer from dwarfism. It's widely used and nobody has a problem with it except the PC police. Would you prefer Gary entitle the thread '20 year old girl missing PS she's very short'?
