That project is done & dusted. It came up short of the dam though feeding into one of the minor tributaries and it just sokes into the ground.
 
Eish, only 31% full on that dam...

Richards Bay industrial complexes may start schitting themselves soon.
 
They are pumping from the Tugela to try and supplement it at the moment but what they can pump in is only about 33% of what is going out.
 
Heard yesterday Bell Park dam in the central berg is pretty much dry

Local farmers in the area depend on it for irrigation so that's bad, usually by this time of year it's pretty full already

More water restrictions on cards for KZN

Durban – More water restrictions are on the cards for KwaZulu-Natal, after the uMgungundlovu District Municipality said there was a "compelling need" to have them in place.

A committee to evaluate water restrictions has been set up.

The uMgungundlovu District Municipality said it was forewarning businesses, ratepayers, and communities about the compelling need to introduce water restrictions to alleviate the effects of the ongoing drought.

The debilitating drought had especially hit the Midlands hard, it said in a statement. District Mayor Yusuf Bhamjee said details of water restrictions would be made public after all technical assessments had been conducted.
"The aim of the water restrictions would not be to penalise members of the public, but is done as a last resort in an effort to secure and maintain future water supply for our people and local businesses."

A committee of experts from the Department of Water and Sanitation, water service authorities and providers, and a disaster management team from Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs, would meet regularly to monitor the restrictions.

People could report leaks and water being wasted to toll-free number 0800 864 911.

Warning: 15% water cuts on their way

Durban - With dam levels still shrinking across the province, the government has warned residents of Durban, Pietermaritizburg, Howick and the upper South Coast to brace for compulsory 15% domestic and industrial water restrictions unless there is an immediate and noticeable drop in water consumption.

Irrigation farmers face a 50% reduction in water supply in these areas.

It is understood that some municipalities could announce the first restrictions this weekend, affecting up to 5 million people (900 000 households) supplied by the uMngeni catchment system.

Angela Masefield, a senior official of the Department of Water and Sanitation in Durban, said they had learnt valuable lessons from the poor public response when people in Ballito and other parts of the North Coast were urged to curb water demand voluntarily from the rapidly shrinking Hazelmere Dam last year.

She hinted strongly on Wednesday that unless the public produced rapid and meaningful water savings in KwaZulu-Natal’s biggest cities and towns, the department would have no alternative but to restrict the volume of water released for treatment from Midmar, Albert Falls, Inanda and Nagle dams.

The storage level at Midmar Dam on Wednesday was down to less than 47% (the lowest level in 30 years), Albert Falls was at 37.7%, Inanda Dam just over 80%, Nagle Dam at 86% and Spring Grove at 72%.

Midmar Dam is dropping at about 3% a month and Albert Falls at 4%, despite recent rains.

Water authorities fear Midmar and Albert Falls will be dry by the end of the year if consumption continues at the current rate.

We've had water rationing since November. Off from 9-3 everyday and when it is on the pressure is halved and we seem to be the only ones in the surrounding area to have it.

Ballito has water restrictions but they don't get switched off like we do even though we both get our water from Hazelmere.

Funnily enough we also have a host of 'rich white households' and everyone has been whinging non stop, that didn't stop em.

December was absolute chaos with all the GPs down here, went days without water because they kept using it all up.
