LaCie Rugged Hard Disk

LaCie is a company which has disappointed me twice with their Big Disk Extreme. Their tech support took 2 weeks to reply. Their agent in SA took 2 weeks to fix a drive which failed 2 days after purchase. Avoid LaCie, their products shock absorbers or not. I'll be honest, no other portable drive - and I've lots (Maxtor, WD, Iomega, Seagate) has failed.
My bad experience is only limited to LaCie and on TWO occasions. AVOID LaCie products.

Iv also had a very bad experience with a Lacie external and wouldn't recommend them.

My 500Gb regular Lacie failed after about 6 months for no apparent reason. I took it back to the store and it was sent to Lacie. I was contacted about 10 days later and told that the warranty was void because I had opened it (which I hadn't).

Why on earth would I open it, as if I posses the technical know how to fix a Harddrive riddled with bad sectors.

It gets worse. After much arguing I gave up, realising that it was now my word against theirs and they weren't budging. I then asked them to send it back to the store so that I could atleast have the bloody thing and see if I could recover some of the Data. Somehow it got lost between them and the shop and was never seen again.

I replaced it with a 500GB seagate and it hasnt given any problems in about a year.

Ruggedised HDD Enclosures

Hi ,

Pity -- I was looking at this one -- but in a 2.5" form factor.

Anyone know of a good reliable "ruggedised" external enclosure for a 7,200 RPM "crash-proof" 2.5" HDD ( with good aesthetics )

Or am I going to have to look at making my own ?
