Lag/Disconnect Issues - Lets solve it!

Hi all,

I'm posting here to see if other people have the some problem and if so maybe we can combine forces and do things step for step to try and pin point the problem.

Over the past months of Wrath I've been having Lag issues during Boss fights and also gets disconnected

Monday I upgraded to a 4MBit line & got myself a Unshaped adsl acct. Did VOA25, OS2 & EOE25 Thuesdays with a 200ms ping using lowerping and had perfect conditions.

Then last night we did U25 again and as soon as we started a boss fight there graphics/spells etc gets intense my ping jumps to like 3000ms, I cant do much and most of the times I get disconnected.
Thing is I connected without lowerping then and I still got the lag and disconnects with the unshaped account.

This almost seems to happen on random days. For instance, tonight I might go into U25 and continue the raid and have no lag and no problems at all, but then I'll go into Naxx 25 on Friday maybe and I'll have lag problems again.
Its just like that, some days it works, some days its full of *****

1 - So basically, because of that, I can probly say it is NOT my PC (Core 2 duo, HD4850 GB card)

2- It cant be my windows, why would it work one day and the next not.

3 - Same with firewall\spam\antivirus software. I should have the problem permanently if it was the cause

3 - My network card, well I'd also say it should be a permanent problem if it was my nic

4 - My router, Netgear DG834PN (using it wired) - also not the problem because the problem is not every day

That brings me to 2 things

A - Either there is something wrong with my ADSL line/telephone line connection @ my house and some situations cause it to have problems.

or

B - Its a blizzard thing, in which cause most ppl should have the problem...


Right so who else is sitting with this also and what have you done to try and solve it?
 
telkom there is your problem,u25 requires more bandwith then ur 4mb line can provides that why your dc,if it starts getting slower and slower than u dc then its a speed problem i had the same with normal 3g,with hsdpa its fine just random days like yesterday i dc like every 5 min,but when my internet is on i play fine,with lagg spikes now and then because of wireless
 
I've been getting the odd lag spikes where it feels like i've got 6000ms (5-7second delay), yet my latt says 400 >.> Telkom ftl
 
One or two things that I did to stop my seemingly random DC's..

1) Disable Questhelper before raiding.
2) Disable Recount before raiding (let someone else get the stats!)
3) Play in windowed mode....don't ask..4 Horseman was an auto-dc for me before doing this.
4) Temporarily disable on access virus scan for duration of the raid.

I only have adsl 384 and an unshaped account from Axxess.
Beasty boy graphics card, the rest of the PC is average.
 
I have seen allot of issues with my old system. With my new system I seem be be running DC free. It seems like the reason for my DC's was the fact that my PC could not process the data quick enough, this included GFX, Combat log and everything going with it.

Since I have changed to a new Mobo+CPU and a new GFX card (9600GT) I have had 0 dc's.

Even on the 25 man we did last night since my return to WoW I haven't dc'd once. I have seen a few guys DC during the raid but I never even got a second or so freeze frame. Running as smooth as silk.

I might just be lucky but since I'm running the new machine I have zero issues. And I play on Wireless, not even Copper :o

What are your US/DS margins on your line ? (noise)

What server are you playing on?

There are a number of issues, the server you play on is a major contributor, i play on ravenholdt and now recently bronze dragon flight, now with ravenholdt my latency on unshaped 2mbit is around 350-450, on bronze it never go's above 270ms.

I am not running any registry hacks nor any redirect services, its all purely unshaped webafrica.

I use OS X so i dont have any form of malware scanners installed

Just for the record i have done U25/U10 all the major raids and have not had lag spikes, i play and sit comfortably at around 300ms with vent.

Who do you have your unshaped account with?

hereticangel u have it wrong, its NOT a bandwith issue

WOW don't use allot of traffic. It uses about 20mb per hour when u raiding or a few kb/sec
Honestly not that much and even a 384 line will by way more than enough.

Even games like Warcraft 3/dota, CS etc uses quite a bit more bandwith than WOW.

Questhelper I dont even use anymore.
Recount I have disabled, its not the problem
I cant see how windowed mode can or should have any effect...
Virus scan? I also fail to see the effect it can have. Maybe a firewall, but then it should be a constant problem.

As I said before, I change nothing from one night to the next. Sometimes its 100% fine, the next night its a nightmare.
I'm still leaning towards intermitted (or something like that) ADSL/telephone line problems.
 
Who is your ISP? Maybe try contact them and see if they are having any issues.

Personally i have had bad expierences with semi-shaped accounts, never tried axxess unshaped ones. Thou i guess webafrica and axxes get there bandwidth from the same source.

Was it raining by your last night? there was bit of a thunderstorm could have caused some water to get into the junction boxes.

I think it could be a noise issue, i usually have had issues. But the other night i went and ripped my connector out the wall and repliced my telephpone lines and my lag is perfect now. So i suspected i had a bit of arcing which was causing static or disruption. But obviously that doesnt solve it when there are intl peering issues.
 
Reading from your first post, this seem to be of particular problem in 25 man Ulduar? How are the rest of the people in your raid group doing on lag? Are they complaining about lag? If they have the slightest lag playing close to the servers, you will have 10 times worst conditions just due to the distance.

On the release of all new raids I have seen similar problems, everyone wants to try out the new events and the server stress is huge. Result from South Africa is in most cases a DC.

I play with an unshaped WA account and get constant pings around 350ms and about 500ms in Ulduar 25. So even on my server there is something different with the Ulduar raid server.

From my own lag experience I have learned that the Saix line gives worst ping but stable conditions when overall server latency is bad. The Verizon line gives better ping but have lots of spikes and can DC.

I experience the total opposite of that. I never play with verizon it just dc's all the time.

Server lag, or addon problem. Even addons your raid use can have this problem. Bosmods, raid tools, etc. Questhelper as mentioned before was blamed for similar lag at bosses during Naxx. But server lag was the same with some boss fights in some TBC boss fights...
 
on my side it was bandwith issue sometimes i transfer 100kbs,or more in fight and when someone speak on vent its like 50kbs or 70kbs. 20mb a hour??? what do u raid,i use like 150mb for 3 hours in u25 with vent running.on normal 3g i get instant dc when the start fight in 25 ,because i dont have enough bandwith, on hsdpa i dont dc on fight unless there is big lagg spikes

100kbs? lol dude you got some serious malware on your machine..

even when i played on windows with vent it never spiked about 25-30kb

I think their Vent server were maybe configured for high quality and that could be the cause for the high bandwidth.
I also never go over about 40kbs. We are using TS though.
 
The other people in the U25 raid was fine. There where 2 SA friends, living in other towns, than me in the raid.

We where chatting on TS and I would tell them I'm lagging again and then get disconnected from WOW (but still be on TS)

Again to recap:

My previous U25 raid was 100% fine with 200ms ping (one before that had problems)
Last night without changing anything on my PC, wow addons, internet etc I got massive lag and disconnects from WOW during U25
Other SA friends had no problems in the raid

I'll post my router stats a bit later
