those margins seem fine..

telkom there is your problem,u25 requires more bandwith then ur 4mb line can provides that why your dc,if it starts getting slower and slower than u dc then its a speed problem i had the same with normal 3g,with hsdpa its fine just random days like yesterday i dc like every 5 min,but when my internet is on i play fine, with lagg spikes now and then because of wireless

Dont know what u talking about, i was doing 25man raids on a 384kb with a constant ping of 500ms and that was during AOEing mobs down. The speed of the adsl isnt the problem, its either ur machine (maybe anitvirus or some other program downloading in the backround) or it has something telkoms side.

I have been having the same issues you mention.... on a bad night i have tried 2 different modems and 3 different ISP's, during these times i have done the Iburst and telkom speed tests...my speed on Tuesday was 44kbps = 5.5 Kb i could not even log into the game on any of my characters in Dalaran.. last night it was a bit better... speed test about 120kbps, but that was just not good enough to raid, as i disconnect on every fight and can only log back in once the fight is over :(
I used to have 300 ms pings and NO problems a month or 2 ago.
Like you i am also suspecting that there is a Line or switchboard fault in my area. I logged a call on Monday with telkom but they have yet to come back to me.
I am not sure if the fault is just a line problem or maybe a contention rate issue as well, my latency goes especially bad between 8pm and 11pm and then it gets a bit better again. It also seems to get bad when there is wet weather, indicating for me that somewhere the line is exposed to water.

I dont know how to solve this issue short of moving house :P . . have considdered trying out Neotel but not prepared to sign a 2 year contract on a product that may have unplayable latency.

BTW which area are you in? maybe we have the same swichboard issue :P

I am in Mosselbay in the Western Cape so doubt its the same exchange :p

I'm also waiting for telkom to come out now and test onsite. Thing is thou, that nights with the crap Wow latency and disconnects I can go and play CS & Dota fine with a 40ms ping (thou its local)

Hmm when my latency is bad it affects everything even local sites.. takes like 5 minutes to open a local site like a banking site so our issues may not be the same after all.

I know there are many other complaints about disconnects currently on WoW that may be last patch related. disable all your addons and leave vent and see whats your connection speed then. Recount especially seems to be a bandwidth hog these days.

I have heard of people disabling their combat log and then they have no more DC's. Try to search on Google what the command is to disable the combat log and see if it will help you.

yeah mine is also about 20-30kbytes,what i was refering to kbits because that is how my software reads it

I am playing on Ursin US and am having problems with dc's in 25mans, i was able to do a 25man Nax 2 weeks ago friday but when i returned on saturday i kept dc'ing, keep in mind that since black temple came out i havent been able to do a 25mans again (thank goodness for my guild who take me as i come )
about 2-3weeks ago i bought a new pc set it up to the best of me and my cousins knowledge got all the new drivers etc and bam! still no 25mans happening for me and the last week latency has been 700-2700 random, this afternoon lightning took out my network card I installed the new one...The wow god hate me :(

BTW I'm @ home now and my router now shows a bit different speed that it did @ 1pm today

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 3968 kbps 512 kbps
Line Attenuation 40.0 db 21.0 db
Noise Margin 11.9 db 14.0 db

Why would it show 3968 @ night and 4096 during the day...

So last night I connected with the unshaped account, loaded up lowerping and went into ulduar 25 and it went fine.

There was the odd lag spike where it went up tot 2k ms for for cast, but 99% of the time it was acceptable and I completed the raid.

I did get disconnected once when the house phone rang. (never got disconnected cause of that before... maybe that says something?)

What I did before I went online is play a bit with my network card settings as mentioned in http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php?t=42432

Thing is I have Intel Q45 Motherboard and it's network card as far more options than that link talks about. I'm sure it can be tuned more optimal

Now the thing is I don't know if the changes helped or if it was just one of my better nights...

You know what i find strange is one night I can raid with one or 2 dc's but the next i get dc'd all the time..I have a telkom shaped account and a webafrica unshaped neither seem to want to work with raiding :( now it seems like its affecting battle grounds as well ..yesterday i did a few wg with no problems today i cant stay connected ..go figure

Sorry to be a bit off topic here, but this Lowerping thing you guys keep talking about. What is it exactly? Should i have it? The words "Lower" and "ping" kinda caught my attention :)

I'm playing on Sylvanas.

Sylvannas ! My first and only guess will be that that is where your problem resides.

If possible use a friends account on another server maybe with a high lvl char. Test raiding and compare.

Sylvannas is one of the oldest servers around in WoW. I myself can confirm that when you migrate to another server that your problems "might" dissapear.

Friends of mine ( Not Myself ) did the whole migration thingy a while back and comparing their latencies with mine, theirs is always 200 - 300 ms quicker than mine. Not to even mention lag spikes.

/run COMBATLOG:UnregisterEvent("COMBAT_LOG_EVENT")

Use the macro after you've zoned into a instance, it disables your combat log which causes alot of gimping of your system especially when alot of stuff is happening e.g. AoE in 25 mans. It will remain disabled until you relog.

lowerping is a similar service like gamemax where it enabled you to tunnel your connect to a lowerping server, which in turn then reroutes the traffic to a wow server. This is basically like a "VPN", all traffic is encrypted between you and the endpoint so in theory it doesnt break any TOS, EOS. But if something had to happen to your account blizzard undoubtedly will not be forgiving.

Update on the lag issue as of late i have had no latency problems what so ever, i am using a 2mbit unshaped WA account. Like i have mentioned in previous posts, perhaps someone else can test it out for me.

On Bronze Dragon flight create a char and test the latency there (thou i would not suggest, staying there as its a newish realm a year or two old and the people on that server are so HQ its not even funny.).

i found spinebreaker to have the worst latency in comparison to my usual realms.

Ravenholdt
Bronze
Azuremyst
Spinebreaker

So i am thinking of taking this up with Telkom...now with all my tracerts done just who do I send it to when I spoke to a techy that came out to my home ........he had no clue what a tracert was
