The 2023 Lamborghini Urus Performante Is Lighter, Faster, and Stronger

With 666 metric horsepower, the devil is in the details when it comes to the Performante.

Lamborghini is going balls to the wall with its latest creation: the Urus Performante. It’s more powerful, lighter, and quicker than the standard Urus.

Revealed at the Quail during Monterey Car Week, the Performante adds 16 horsepower from its twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 for a total of 657 horsepower and 627 lb-ft of torque. That’s 666 metric horsepower. The mark of the beast. God is quivering.

The Performante also reduces the SUV’s overall weight by 104 pounds. These improvements reduce the 0-60 time to 3.3 seconds. It’s also got a top speed of 190 mph. Lamborghini says the Urus Peformante’s drive modes were re-engineered. They include a new Rally mode. It’s meant to turn up the oversteer characteristics of the vehicle with anti-roll and dampening systems to work with its revised suspension.

Italian firm Lamborghini has finally whipped the covers off its Urus Performante, with first customer deliveries of the facelifted “Super SUV” scheduled to take place before the end of 2022.

So, what’s new with Lamborghini’s best-selling model? Well, the big news is yet more power from the twin-turbo 4.0-litre V8 petrol engine, which now generates a heady 490 kW (up 12 units) and an unchanged 850 Nm. The Urus Performante has furthermore lost 47 kg, resulting in what the Italian company bills as a “best-in-class” power-to-weight ratio.

The claimed 0-100 kph time falls three tenths to 3.3 seconds, matching the sprint time of the 500 kW Aston Martin DBX 707, while its top speed climbs one unit to 306 kph (interestingly, four units behind the AMG-powered British high-performance SUV). Lamborghini furthermore says the SUV’s aerodynamic efficiency has been improved, with overall downforce increasing by 8%.

Lighter and more potent Lamborghini Urus Performante unleashed

Lamborghini has sharpened its super SUV, with the lighter and more dynamic Urus Performante making its debut at Pebble Beach on the weekend.

The power gain is modest, with the 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 being dialled up to 490kW, which is 12kW more than before, while peak torque remains at 850Nm between 2300 and 4500rpm.

However, Lamborghini has managed to lower the kerb weight by an impressive 47kg. Thanks to this, the Urus Performante sprints from 0-100km/h in 3.3 seconds, down from the current car’s 3.6s. A lightweight titanium Akrapovič sports exhaust is fitted as standard.

A lot has been sharpened below the engine. The new steel springs lowers the chassis by 20mm and the track has been widened by 16mm, with new carbon fibre wheel arches accommodating optional 23-inch or standard 22-inch wheel options that wear specially designed Pirelli tyres.

The Lamborghini Urus has been an enormous success for the brand so it makes perfect sense to offer a slightly updated version packing more power and less weight.

It is called the Urus Performante and the twin-turbo 4.0-litre V8 has been massaged to deliver 657 horses (490 kW) while torque remained unchanged, at 850 Nm (627 lb-ft).

This more potent version has also been on a bit of a diet and has shed 47 kg (104 pounds) which improves performance and dynamics.

Zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) takes just 3.3 seconds which makes it three-tenths quicker than the regular Urus.

Handling has been improved with the chassis being lowered by 20 mm (0.8 inches) as well as the track being wider (16mm, 0.6 inches).

As standard, the Super SUV now comes with an Akrapovic exhaust and a host of carbon bits and pieces.

The Urus Performante will start from R4,495,000 in South Africa.

G-Power Tweak Lamborghini Urus Up To 830 HP (618 kW)

When we talk about G-Power we immediately think about BMW as that is how the tuning company began. Since then, they have taken on Mercedes-AMG and even Porsche but now they have turned their attention to the Sant’Agata Bolognese brand.

Their first project with Lamborghini is the insanely popular Urus Super SUV which delivers 650 hp (484 kW) and 850 Nm (627 lb-ft) from the stock twin-turbo 4.0-litre V8.

If you want more, you can opt for G-Power’s software upgrade which takes things up to 740 hp (551 kW) and 950 Nm (700 lb-ft) of torque.

If that is not mean enough, they will take it all the way to 780 hp (581 kW) and 1,000 Nm (737 lb-ft) by installing new proprietary downpipes, sports catalytic converters, and software enhancement. This is achieved with the stock air coolers but if you replace these, you can add another 50 hp (37 kW) to take the Lambo to a monstrous 830 hp (618 kW).

Luxurious and versatile performance

The twin-turbo V8 engine with increased power to 666 CV matches that of the Urus S' Performante stablemate, delivering an improved weight-to-power ratio of 3.3 kg/CV. Acceleration is improved, with the Urus S propelling from 0-100 km/h in 3.5 seconds and 0-200 km/h in 12.5 seconds. With a top speed of 305 km/h, the Urus S brakes from 100 km/h back to zero in just 33.7m. Its twin-turbo engine delivers 850 Nm of maximum torque already at 2,300 rpm up to a maximum 6,000 rpm. A retuned exhaust system reminds that the Super SUV is a true Lamborghini, with a more distinct sound at start-up and a sharper note in each drive mode.

The Lamborghini Urus has been a massive hit so it came as no surprise that a facelift was introduced earlier this year. This was the hardcore Urus Performante variant but now there is a second, less hardcore offering dubbed the Urus S.

Under the hood sits the same twin-turbo 4.0-litre V8 from the Performante which means you get 657 hp (490 kW) but it is not as light (47 kg heavier) which means it will take 3.5 seconds (0.2s slower) to reach 100 km/h (62 mph) while the top speed of 305 km/h (190 mph) remains the same.

Visual tweaks appear to have been modelled after the Performante and although we can see the Performante’s new front-end design with a more angular bumper, the larger splitter isn’t seen on the Urus S.

A small Italian manufacturer has revealed the latest iteration of its best-selling, most practical car. By which we mean, Lamborghini has revealed a really fast, really powerful SUV. This is the Lamborghini Urus S: the successor to a car that’s smashed Sant’Agata’s sales records year after year.

So yes, this is the new ‘entry-level’ Urus, and for this 2022 update brings with it a swathe of upgrades including a rather devilish one: a power boost for that 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 to 666 CV.

That’s 657bhp in His Majesty’s horsepowers, matching the output (and 627lb ft of torque) of the range-topping Urus Performante. It’s quicker to 62mph too, though pegged back, lest it trample on the hooves of its big brother. So the benchmark sprint for the new entry-level Urus S drops from 3.6s to… 3.5s. If you can notice a difference that infinitesimal, perhaps you should consider a career as a surgeon.

Indeed it’s two tenths slower than a Performante, but still able to go from 0-124mph in 12.5s and max out at 190mph and yes that is still Very Fast. Fast on the brakes, we’re assured, with the 62-0mph test completed in 33.7m.

The Lamborghini Urus will gain a power boost and design changes in a new S specification that will sit below the more dynamic Urus Performante variant.

Set to be priced from around £188,000 in the UK, the Urus S is billed as the entry-level successor to the standard version of the Italian firm’s best-selling super-SUV.

Its 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 now produces 656bhp - the same as the Performante - and acceleration has also improved.

The Porsche Cayenne Turbo rival is now capable of completing 0-62mph in 3.5sec and achieving a top speed of 189mph.

Torque stands at 626lb ft and the firm says a retuned exhaust system has been fitted to produce a more characterful note in all drive modes.

Lamborghini says the engine in the Urus S is calibrated the same as the sportier Performante's, with “optimum responsiveness and performance”.

Like the previous standard Urus, adaptive air suspension is included as standard, with Strada, Sport, Corsa and the customisable Ego drive modes. Three off-road drive modes are also included.

When Lamborghini unwrapped the refreshed Urus in August 2022, it detailed only the Performante derivative. Now, a new Urus S variant has been unleashed, with the same peak power and torque figures as the Performante.

That means the twin-turbo 4.0-litre V8 petrol engine in the Urus S generates 490 kW and 850 Nm, outputs that are delivered to all four corners through an 8-speed automatic transmission. However, since the latest version doesn’t benefit from various of the Performante’s weight-saving measures (the Urus S has a listed kerb weight of 2 197 kg, which is 47 kg more), it’s a touch tardier to three figures.

Still, the claimed 0-100 kph time of 3.5 seconds (two-tenths down on the Performante) is hardly pedestrian. The 200 kph mark is reached in a claimed 12.5 seconds, while top speed is listed as a heady 305 kph (a mere unit behind the lighter version). Lamborghini says the exhaust system, meanwhile, has gained a “more distinct sound at start-up and a sharper note in each drive mode”.

Since it employs the same powertrain calibration as the Performante, the Urus S delivers what the Italian firm describes as “optimum responsiveness and performance when required, alongside luxurious everyday driving pleasure”.

Lamborghini Urus Performante 2022 first drive

t’s unlikely owners will ever use the full potential of all this, but the Urus was certainly fun on mud. What impressed was how much feedback you got from the seat, which meant that the car was easy to hustle because you always knew what it was doing. It rode bigger bumps well for the most part, but you could feel the weight transfer more here than on the track. Still, Dakar 2023 here we come.
