Lamborghini Urus SUV

Lamborghini Urus 2018 review

Should I buy one?

The only sticking point, then, is whether you thought that was a question worth asking, and worth putting a Lamborghini badge onto its nose when you answered it. Questions, questions: would you be more or less well disposed to this car if it wore a badge you’d never heard of? Is it fine to know a car is technically excellent but not actually like it very much? You decide.

This one I know: does it feel like a Lamborghini? Not overtly, but you can see where they’ve tried very hard. But did a Porsche Cayenne feel like a Porsche when that was launched? Not that I can remember, and look how much a part of the furniture that has become. I guess that will be the way it is here too. Man cannot live on naturally aspirated mid-engined cars alone.

Can't really say if it's weird, ugly or both. On the Cullinan or Bentayga, I know it's ugly, here it's simply bizarre.

The front looks a bit cheap too, I'd take a Cayenne GTS, XC90 or XC5M any day over this.

It's actually a very nice car, pics don't do it justice! I always thought it was weird until I saw one in the fresh, my mind was changed from that moment. And the exhaust is top notch, heard it before I saw it! Sorry for the bad pics, just caught me off guard. And ooh, nothing looks cheap here!

Here Is The Lamborghini Urus Knockoff And It’s Called The X-Series

Just a few days ago we shared some sketches of an upcoming creation from Huansu Auto in China but today we get some official renderings of their creation known as the X-Series*.

It will be manufactured in China by Beiqi Yinxiang Automobile which is a joint venture between the BAIC and the Yinxiang Motorcycle Group and will ride on an outgoing BIAC SUV platform.

It is slightly shorter than the Lamborghini Urus which it is very clearly based (copied) on and will come in both five and seven seat variations.

The Urus packs 650 horsepower but the Huansu X-Series gets a just 195 hp (145 kW) from a 2.0-litre turbocharged unit.

The Huansu X-Series goes on sale in China on June 6.

*Not only are they cloning the Urus but also using a moniker (sort-of) from Mercedes.

Lamborghini Urus: Here's how much it costs

South African pricing for the forthcoming Lamborghini Urus has been announced as Lamborghini South Africa is now being managed by the LSM Group, who currently manage Porsche SA and Bentley SA.

The Lamborghini Urus is entering a booming luxury SUV segment and is powered by a 4.0-litre twin turbo V8 engine offering 478 kW from 6 000 rpm and 845 Nm of torque from 2 250 rpm. Apart from fulfilling its duties as an SUV, the Urus will also deliver eye-watering performance and if claims are to be believed, it’s undoubtedly the fastest SUV on earth.

Weighing in at 2 154 kg, acceleration is blistering by SUV standards with Lamborghini claiming 3.6 seconds in the sprint to 100 kph while forging ahead to 200 kph in 12.8 seconds and finally maxing out with a top speed of 305 kph. The Urus makes use of an 8-speed ZF automatic transmission with a torque converter, a first for the brand, sending power to all four wheels.

Lamborghini South Africa is currently represented by two dealerships; one in Johannesburg and one in Cape Town, while a third dealership in Durban is in the planning stages.

Lamborghini hits record sales (not even including Urus)

Lamborghini has registered a new sales record for the first half of a year, delivering a total of 2 327 vehicles in the first six months of 2018.

The Italian automaker says these figures represent an 11 percent increase year-on-year, and actually surpass the full-year sales numbers the brand was achieving just five years ago.

And, rather interestingly, the new Urus is not even included in these figures, with the first customer deliveries set to start in July. The half-year growth therefore comes courtesy of the Huracán and Aventador.

Boosted by what Lamborghini describes as “rocketing sales” of the Huracán Performante, global sales of the Huracán model line showed an increase from 1 400 to 1 604 units. The Aventador line, meanwhile, “maintained the high level of the previous period” with 673 units delivered.

The largest single market for Lamborghini was again the United States, followed by Japan and the United Kingdom. The strongest region was Europe, which enjoyed a year-on-year increase of more than 30 percent. Unfortunately, local Lamborghini sales figures are currently not reported to Naamsa, so it’s difficult to get an idea of exactly how many have been sold in South Africa over the reporting period.

“Lamborghini continues to be in consistently good shape. Delivering another new all-time high, for the fourth consecutive half year, confirms the sustainability of our brand, product and commercial strategy,” said Stefano Domenicali, chairperson and chief executive officer of Lamborghini.

“The success is all the more remarkable as we master the unprecedented double challenge of creating new models in our super sportscar range, while simultaneously ramping up the production of our highly acclaimed super SUV Urus. This quantum leap in the longstanding history of Lamborghini is only possible due to the passion, dedication and competence of our unrivalled team,” he added.

Lamborghini hits Aventador, Huracán production milestones

Lamborghini says it has registered two milestones in the production of its Aventador and Huracán supercars.

According to the Italian brand, it has now built 8 000 examples of the Aventador, some seven years after the model’s market introduction. Chassis number 8 000 is an Aventador S Roadster finished in Grigio Telesto that will be delivered to a customer in Japan.

In addition, four years after the start of production of the Huracán, the 11 000th unit rolled off the assembly line. Chassis number 11 000 is finished in Blue Nethuns and will go to a buyer in Italy.

Lamborghini recently reported that its worldwide deliveries had increased by 11 percent to a record 2 327 cars in the first half of 2018.

Global sales of the Huracán model line showed an increase from 1 400 to 1 604 units, while the Aventador line managed 673 units for the first six months of the year. Interestingly, the new Urus is not included in the record figure, as the first customer deliveries are set to start in July.

Kind of mind blowing to think these super cars are just on pallets in an aircraft belly, covered in a bedsheet.
