Land rover off road ability

Nothing wrong with LR5, it just looks too much like a Toyota, i.e., ****.

No, it's the 3.0L S/TDV6 that is cranky.

Well, it does - the crossover coolant pipe, which is sandwiched between the engine and the supercharger. Not only does this location mean that the rubber tends to crack/perish over time, which can lead to a catastrophic meltdown, but it also has a stupid 3-prong connection, which again, tends to crack after a while.

I just had the pipe and water pump replaced on my RRS as a preventative measure (100,000km), and that cost R12k. Small price to pay every 100,000km imho.
Yes you are right. My response was aimed at the LR4 v8 which is naturally aspirated. As far as I know that 3 prong connector was on the 4.4 LR3 and not the 5.0 LR4.

IIRC, the crossover coolant pipe issue is on the AJV8, on all variants.

Also, up to 2012, they suffered from elongated timing chain issues due to the tensioners (or something) wearing over time.

Again, you could pick up on these issues early and fix them, unlike the cranky SDV6, which can let go as you drive off the showroom or when it hits 500,000km, or any time in between .

Who drives a LR till 500 000 km

You'd be surprised, plenty of high-mileage ones around. You just don't hear about them because, well, no news is good news

For example, Jeremy Clarkson's L322 is more than 10 yrs old, and he runs around on his farm in it, lugging fish, sheep, and what not.
That one has money so he can keep up with its breakdowns

RRs are not for peasants

Mind you, no LR since the Disco3 is.

People forget that about luxury vehicles - yes, you can buy them cheaper second-hand, but the maintenance will cost you.
Me personally I want the discovery 4. That car, I just don't see any reason to go for the discovery 5 for anyone. The 4 is a proper workhorse, a British one unfortunately but still a workhorse. The boxy design, the endless sea of open glass, magnificent

I had a Disco4, for about 18 months. Then the storied about the cranky SDV6 started emerging, and I didn't fancy driving a ticking time-bomb, so I got rid of it.

FTFY.
A masochist....

I have two landys, what does that make me?
