So the discovery and defender are both capable, but I never see anyone take them on adventures except journalists testing them. Theyre prices overlap, both are expensive, and you could take a prado for similar money. What's the purpose of these cars?

You don’t see Defenders going on overland trips? I see plenty. If the mods cost more than the car, I know the guy is serious.

No I mean the new models that came in these last few years with heavy technology. And maybe the discovery 4. That one though I honestly trust it since it was built at a time when LR and tech weren't married

Yeah, well give it a few years (decades?) to be adopted. Only five people in South Africa can afford it right now, and they can afford to stay at boutique hotels.

I doubt they'll still be here. Climate change reasons

I once owned a land rover.
A buddy had a hilux with a sticker on the back: "I'd rather drive jap crap than push a landy".
Never again.

Because 99% of people who buy these , buy them to pick up the kids from school not for offroading. So people who watch and read the reviews wants to know how good they are for picking up the kids from school with.

That is stupid. Why buy something so big to pick up kids at school? Even a toyota Yaris can do that excellently

The general public doesn't. Those are for review purposes or marketing by land rover. We talking about a normal person who brought this with thier money. And yes in south Africa they don't take them offroading unless its the onler generation models
Ahem... I bought my RRS with my own money, and yes, it goes off-road plenty.

And no, a Prado is not not nearly as capable as any of the modern landys.

It actually is. Remove the wading depth from the equation and the fancy technology to assist you, it is. Why else do you think war Lords prefer toyotas when working in mountains?

ROFL!

And this was 10 yrs ago.

Go troll somewhere else, neh.
The guy was talking about modern land rovers. MODERN. not the older models. U must put on your glasses and read the texts again. I know the older ones are capable

Um, what does the Cape Land Rover Club logo all over the videos mean, then? Are members of the general public not allowed to join?

Most SUVs, including Fortuners will only see school trips, sidewalks and the occasional dirt road.
If you are in one of the cities, the same will probably go for a large percentage of bakkies as well. That is the reality.

Land Rover and friends are at least good comfortable road vehicles as well.
