Hi there.
Got my Laptop today. What do I need now to be able to go online for internet (not dialup). If I travel and need online e-mail etc...?
My laptop has got wireless, but about 3g or something, and what does it cost me a month? Currently I have Desktop PC with ADSL, 3 gig. Is it worth to take out for Laptop internet?????

If you want to use MTN you can do so we provide a no subscription connection the number you use is *99# with no user name and no password you can access the internet, your email if you go under accounts and options and enter the proxy for your work email it should work

I have a similar question. I've just bought a laptop which is enabled for mobile broadband where by I can insert my sim card in a slot on the laptop itself. My question is, if I'm on MTN, what package would allow me add-hoc data usage as well as normal voice etc, and would also allow me to have a SIM in my laptop AND a sim in my phone at the same time. Would it be better to get a seperate data SIM from say Virgin?

Well there's quite a few ways you can do it - You can buy yourself a MTN prepaid card and load a bundle

Cost in bundle below and out of bundle is R2,00 a meg

Bundles available are -

MTN Bundles 10MB 100MB 350MB 1G
Subscription R 10.00 R 100.00 R 220.00 R 499.00
Effective In-Bundle
Rate per Megabyte R 1.00 R 1.00 R 0.63 R 0.49
Out-of-Bundle
Rate per Megabyte R 2.00 R 1.50 R 1.50 R 1.25

Look at the end of the day VM has the cheapest Edge connection at R0, 50 a Meg. With MTN there are also way's what you could do is have a contract with your primary and secondary and use your secondary for your pc

Option 2 which I like you get a MTN prepaid card a VC prepaid card and a VM prepaid card and play around with all three

Probably best to get a separate prepaid data sim as MTNDD said and load a bundle on that, if you need another bundle in the same month you could always load it on a different sim card. Then just get a normal contract sim on your phone for now. Virgin won't give you 3G, at least not normally although there is a bug now. I'd go with MTN for now, Virgin's pretty unreliable at the moment, with prepaid there's no contractual commitment so you could always reassess it in a few months anyway.

One last question :)
If I'm getting something like the HTC TyTN, what sim card would I need. I got my last phone (V3 Razr) more than 2 years ago, so I've no clue as to what SIM I currently have. Best to speak to a provider?

Not sure to be honest, best to speak to your SP.

Well at the end of the day if you use a 8k, 16K, 32K or USIM it in no way will effect your speed you'll still be able to use WCDMA and HSDPA the plus with a USIM if you are a big roamer then a USIM would be perfect for Data Roaming

Why, do some networks overseas only support 3G/HSDPA roaming on a USIM?

Sorry

Any SIM will work with the possible exception of WCDMA only networks - Japan is the only one. Roaming and Data roamin isn't SIM dependant.
