Laptop BIOS faulty?

So for the better part of the day I have been trying to get this one laptop working correctly.

Basically the time keeps going wrong (sometimes shows the year as 14491 and sometimes 1601) and I have googled fixes and nothing works, I suspect it's hardware related.

The laptop is about a year old. There is also a different problem, when Windows 7 boots it gets stuck at the Starting windows screen and requires a hard reset and will sometimes load into windows.

I have tried formatting it countless times, I have even loaded the recovery partition, same problem..

I have opened up the back and taken the BIOS battery out, left it for 2hours and put it back in. Instead of showing a incorrect time it now just shows 00/00/0000, I have tried to set it but it doesn't accept the settings.

I am now thinking that the BIOS is faulty., thoughts?

Hard drive checks out ok and RAM checks out ok. Laptop is a Gigabyte Q1532
 
Could be the CMOS battery. Most laptops have the watch-type battery. Very few have different ones.

1. Not accepting updating date/time during SETUP? or
2. Accepts change, but on next reboot shows wrong value?
In both cases indicate faulty CMOS/RTC chip. Windows also use private CMOS data. If getting trash, no wonder it won't boot.
Try flashing firmware anyway.

Doesn't accept during setup.

I honestly don't want to flash it since it isn't my laptop and the laptop is still under warranty. I was thinking to flash the BIOS but it seems so risky now that it doesn't seem to even be working correctly. :erm:

Will recommend to the owner to send it back under warranty under suspension that the BIOS is faulty.

Yes comes with a 2 year warranty.


On a side note I honestly don't think it's the CMOS battery since the laptop is only a year old and it did remember the time although it was incorrect before I took the CMOS battery out.

True, If under warranty, I wouldn't risk flashing in such case.
