Is there anyplace in SA that sells laptop CPUs? Someday I will maybe upgrade the T4400 in my laptop to something more powerful like a T9600 for the move from 1MB cache to 6MB cache.
I can purchase a brand new T9600 for $340 or P9500 for $370 from the US.

There's no place in SA that will let you purchase laptop cpus.

You'll feel a bigger performance increase from putting an SSD in your laptop.

Actually I don't know. I put an Intel X25M 160GB in my laptop (it had an 80GB Toshiba HDD in it before). Things run faster but it still loads up slowly (not as slow) and shuts down slowly (not as slow). The SSD waits for something - I dunno what. It happened since I started using ADSL via Ethernet with this machine but now it happens whenever I am connected or not.

I am not in favour of changing things like CPU's & graphics in a laptop. Each laptop is designed with airflow to keep cool what is inside at the time of manufature. The srtonger the CPU & GPU it can create more heat, heat that potentially cant be released if the current airflow design does not accomodate for it.

HDD, RAM, keyboard - fine with that

Up until about 4 years ago I could still get tray cpus from abroad through one of the local intel distis.... give axiz a call and see if they can help, although they will only accept calls from registered dealers.

Update: I managed to obtain an almost brand new T9900. 3.066Ghz 1066FSB 6mb cache. The fastest core2duo laptop processor :) It's even faster than the i5s.
Just swapped out the T4400. Took 30 mins to swap out, removing and replacing heatsink etc. The laptop detected it immediately as a T9900. Running prime95 right now just to test temps which are sitting at 65 degrees max. Love it!

Nice! where did you get it from? I'm sitting with a P8400 in my little lappy. Would it be possible for me to upgrade to the T?
I dont anything about laptop sockets etc..

Picked it up from someone on gumtree yesterday. She's in Cape Town and has one more processor available. A T9600 for R1000. Quite a bargain if you ask me.
I got the T9900 for R1200. The T processors should work in your laptop. Same socket and your P8400 has the same 1066FSB as a T9600/T9900. Depends on your laptop though as your P8400 may be soldered onto the motherboard and not upgradable. You should first google your laptop and see if people have upgraded the cpu.
