Hi

I would like to upgrade the laptop RAM of a family member. The Laptop is a Lenovo 3000 G530 (1GB RAM) and runs terribly slow.

I found someone selling a 2GB RAM slot (DDR2). Does anyone know if it will be fit or what specifications do i need to look at for compatibility?

Thank you

This is the RAM slot referred to.

Actually more precise, that is the RAM module called an SO-DIMM. The RAM slot is where it fits on the motherboard of the laptop. Yes that should work as indicated.

ahhh thank you for clarifying that mate, appreciate it.

I hate to sound like a Hype beast here.

Why not add Linux into that mix too? Maybe like Ubuntu as well, Mint may be a little slower on that amount of RAM, but it is fully loaded with everything you need to watch movies, do a spreadsheet, type a document, view or make a PDF.

I wouldn't recommend you run 3GB - 1x 1GB and 1x 2GB RAM module together.
Run the 2GB module on its own since it will work much faster.

Really? I thought that increasing the total RAM would increase performance of the laptop. Is it about the uneven numbers?

I'll run both, the 2gb is faster at 800mhz but most likely the mother support only 667mhz. The memory will be down clock to 667mhz the same as the 1gb. More is better, no matter how slow the 1gb is it's faster then a hard drive. The best upgrade will be a ssd drive.
