Hi All

I run a Dell PowerEdge T40 at home and want to upgrade the RAM. It's been a while since I dabbled in hardware so I'm uncertain what to look for w.r.t. compatibility.

Here is a photo of the currently installed module.

Any links or references to where I can source compatible upgrades in SA will be appreciated!

Looks like you have 1x 8Gb ECC 2666mhz module:

What do you want to upgrade to?
Firstshop.co.za can help
Yes, I just want to add 8GB, ideally, I'd like a link to a compatible module in an online shop.

It's faster than yours but it'll just run at 2666 without issue.

EDIT: Ignore this, it was for a laptop.

Looks like DDR4 2666MHz (ECC) RAM.

You will need another 8Gb Hynix stick.

Hi, I bought this module but turns out it's not ECC, so not compatible. No worries though, I should be able to return it.

In reference back to my original question, when searching for compatible RAM, what criteria should I apply?

Looking at the label on my RAM (refer to OP) as well as other info provided:
  1. DDR4 - check
  2. SO-DIMM - unsure
  3. 2666V - check (but not sure what the "V" means)
  4. ECC - check
  5. PC4 - Unsure
  6. 1Rx8 - Unsure
  7. ED2-11 - Unsure
  8. HMA81GU7CJR8N - I'm guessing this is the product code, so ideally I should the same, but not required for compatibility. Right?
  9. VK TO AD - Unsure
  10. 2047 - As I understand this is the manufacturing date, so not required for compatibility.

So, from no 1- 4, I can shop for DDR4 2666V SO-DIMM ECC RAM. Will this be compatible or do I need to consider any of the other items I marked as unsure? I think one of those indicated ECC, but I missed it.

The spec from DELL states the following:

Some replies above recommended SO-DIMM, some linked to modules that are RDIMM, the spec says UDIMM.
I'm beginning to feel pretty dimm.

How about this module? Will it work?
