I left my GF's laptop on the floor next to a chair yesterday evening and she stepped on it quite hard, cracking the screen in the process  . It's a Toshiba laptop and it's about 2 years old.

I'm going to get a quote for a screen replacement ASAP, but does anyone know the chances of it being replaceable and more or less how much it's going to cost? I just want to have an idea.

We'll require the Toshiba laptop's model number to give you a quote on the screen, due the screens having different sizes, resolutions, etc.

Usually the screen should be replaceable without too much effort: take out the keyboard, unscrew the screen and disconnect the screen's cable and then swap out the screen :)

It's possible (in most instances) to change the lcd. Best would be to get someone to look at it to get an accurate quote.

The price will most likely be R1500 or more.

Thanks guys. I was worried you could only get spare parts for the very latest laptops.

<R2000 isn't too bad either.

you can do it yourself. from R500 odd for a second hand screen usually... or new non brandname LCD R1000.... or brandname fitted by pro's R3500...

So shop around.

lots of different models and makes use the same type of screens.. just take that lcd out, so you know what type of connector it uses.

alot of the second hand one you pickup on gumtree, the guys will fit it for you if your laptop is in pieces to test it..

Just don't buy a second hand lcd and pickup the girlfriend... (mine sat on my second hand replacement.. so I had to buy another replacement for the replacement... lol)

Depends, if the laptop is a lower range model then you'd rather pick up something new with better specs and a 2 year warranty for around R4000 to R5000. If the laptop was bought new for around R8k or over then it would be more worth it to replace the screen.

You can always find a spare screen 2nd-hand. Like I'm currently sitting with a broken Dell Inspiron 6400 which has a working 15.4" screen.

Is the laptop a Toshiba A215 satellite with a 15.4 inch wide-screen?

My cousins one took a nasty knock on the floor in December and the screen had MAJOR LCD damage with half the screen being completely dead.

At that point i bought the laptop for a steal and went hunting for a replacement.

I found a replacement on Ebay 2nd hand for $99(It was the entire top casing of the laptop) and had in shipped via USPS priority mail with the total amounting to R1200 and R25 to customs.

It took around 3 weeks to arrive but after i ordered it i saw brand new Toshiba LCD panels also going for $89 on ebay.

Anyways i installed the new screen and its as good as new again.

Moral of the story i paid less then half the price of the original quote my cousin got for the screen replacement R2680 and ebay proved itself useful.
