Hi guys. just recently purchased a Packard Bell Te11hc from Makro (picked it up on Friday for a pretty good price). i tested everything when i got it and all seemed well. Last night i started up skype and well.. the webcam wasnt there. I though it was a bit odd. I checked the device manager and also nothing showing up there. plugged in my Logitech webcam and it worked all fine. i also tried to get hold of the webcam drivers for this model but it seems only an app is supplied... what worries me is that device manager doesnt show any errors.

any advice would be appreciated! I have emailed Packard bell to ask for assistance but i dont think ill be getting a reply soon. maybe im just missing something..

thanks a mil :D

EDIT: The webcam was working when i bought the laptop.

Today i started up my pc and to my surprize windows starts installing HD webcam drivers. i tried it out on skype and it worked fine. I closed skype and opened it again to check and now the webcam no longer exists?

im still having problems with this :/ just done a fresh install to windows 8 (backed up all the other stuff) and well still no webcam detected. hoping its not a case of a short cable that gets pulled out..

There could be a loose connection behind the bezel/plastic strip exactly where the webcam is situated inside the laptop.

I would not advise that you start prying this open yourself on a brand new laptop if still under warranty though. Usually there are small square or round plastic bits evenly spaced out on the front bezel that are there to cover the screws keeping the front bezel around the LCD in place, plus some clips between the front bezel and back LCD cover a flat screwdriver or an old credit card can help undo.

Once undone or at least partially undone enough to get to the webcam one should find some wiring for the webcam similar to those tiny round Wi-Fi connectors, just ensure it is pushed in and connected properly or unplug and plug it back in again. Reboot the laptop and hopefully it will remain connected.

This could also depend on make/model.

I was afraid this may be the problem... :/ looks like ill be calling for that on-site repair sooner than I thought!

if it wasn't under warranty I would have done it myself. I have done a few laptops before so i know more or less the ins and outs

thanks
